Atrium
The upper desert was my home
When early autumn raked the brush
As *Santa Annas barreled through
And turned them into tumbleweeds.
But come the night the wind that froze
And raised the altitude of calm,
The darkness from a new moon phase,
Of constellations' whispered hush.
And never atrium so black
Upon the plateau where I watched.
So clear it let in all the light,
Those days without pollution's bane.
Unearthly hues of shades unknown;
A rainbow in the dead of night.
*Santa Annas = what weather forecasters have for decades erroneously named the hot, dry & fierce California Santana winds.

Sunset
You are pink
and orange
splashed across closed eyes.
Your setting sets the fire tongues
loose.
I am white and blue.
Dazzling only when
your heated fingers
dance on my skin.
You are pink
and orange
splashed across closed eyes.
Your setting sets the fire tongues
loose.
I am white and blue.
Dazzling only when
your heated fingers
dance on my skin.
