Runaway Love
Dear Paul
Happy Birthday to you
It makes sense that this day would make me so blue
I swear upon holy stacks-I haven't forgotten you
Today is the day of your birth
I hope you are living life for all it is worth
I wish you sweet and peaceful dreams
Wish I could tell you how my heart ached
As I looked into your brown eyes
Told you I loved you
As I sat and rocked you in the chair
Kissed you lovingly and smoothed your coal black hair
Held you close one last time-struggling not to cry
Dying inside-putting my brave face on once more
Passing you back to the nurse
Taking a steadying breath
And turned and walked out the door
