Desire, a whisper in our veins,
A dance within our essence remains.
I long to peer beyond the self,
To dream of peace, stored on life's shelf.
Billions of souls, a cosmic sea,
Each bearing burdens, yearning to be free.
I yearn for strength, a shared embrace,
To find our place, in life's vast space.
May hope, a flame, in every heart,
Keep sanity alive, a sacred art.
Let love weave a tapestry so grand,
Granting strength to all, across the land.
I resubmitted it as a poetry - general way, instead of discussion entry.
'24's At The Front Door
I wanna erase the pain revolving around my cerebellum
Reflecting a time of peace like an antebellum
The serum, unlike red rum, is my creativity
Waving the white flag when writing poetry
Another year meets history as we're approaching 2024
Expeditiously escorting 2023 right outta the back door
I for sure don't want anymore of what '23 had to offer
Devising a plan for how I can add dollars to my coffer
I want my daughter and I to reestablish our bond
A bond that's floated away like lily pads in a pond
Want my marriage to rest upon a solid foundation
In need of a resurrection of love and far less frustration
Want my depression to be casted into the pits of HELL
Providing an elevation from the situations of which I fell
Don't want to feel this despair so I declare war in '24
If it brings anymore drama to my ailing mental core

As Time Goes By
(I remember all of this)
For too many years I’ve ran and ran
On treadmills
On dark and lonely boulevards before dawn
I’ve been welcomed by cool breezes and beautiful sunrises
I’ve been greeted by other runners going their way
And then
For months, I’d slide down an idle path
I’ve gone for hours on early morning runs without music
Listening to my breathing
Hearing my thoughts out loud
I’ve also rocked to tunes with beats pounding
Only to run out of breath when the rhythm was too fast
(Gotta find the right ones for your own pace)
And then
For months, I’d crash on the couch
I’ve felt my heart tell me to keep going
While my legs screamed “no more”
I’ve felt my lungs working steadily
While my sides hurt from the previous night’s rice and steak
(and cheesecake)
As my mind would say “keep your mouth shut
And breathe through your nose”
And then
For months, I’d get lazy again
For way too many decades
I’ve gone up and down those charts
As time goes by
The consequences of lethargy mount up
The pace is a little slower
The stride a little shorter
Now with each step I take it aches a little more
But my heart tells me I can be there again
For me
As I approach half a century
I ask myself
What’s it going to be in ’24?
Stay tuned

Re-Cycling
no resolutions
no promises
to be broken
no plans or goals
a clean slate
a new orbit around the sun
a new journey
without expectations
only wonder

Hit By Fire
Was I surprised at how tempting it was to get burnt?
Like brushing my hands over a stove of flames.
A short time to feel all the seasons.
Not enough.
Never enough time.
Feels so good to be warm.
Comforted in the unforgiving cold.
Ignoring expectations.
Solace in the feeling of freedom.
Until the right card is drawn.
Capable of creating the perfect deck.
The story doesn’t end with a king being alone.
He just dodges arrows that are red.
Till he catches the one that is green.
