Poetry Contest

I would would like to read your rants and raves against some well known person, place, or thing. In sonnet form.
14 lines, 10 syllables per line gives 140 syllables in total
in an English or Petrarchan sonnet. count excludes title of course.

New writes only. One sonnet per contestant please.

Plenty of room to vent your spleen. Swearwords not needed
please use a dictionary instead. lol.no bashing of DU or its
contributors. it will go to a public vote if lots join in.

1 month, bags of time to polish a masterpiece of
invective abuse vehemently expressed against some
probably innocent, well known person, place or thing.
though I haven't a clue how you will handle the counter
argument or sonnet turn. perhaps, turn up the heat?

Here's one, hopefully, a poor imitation of all future entrants.

The Thing

I hate that deep darkness of outer space
it mocks my feeble spark, of being so,
it's up there, lurking, but so in my face
with its life bringing ancient big bang glow.

It's waiting for my cold scattered ashes
this foul, heartless, dead everlasting thing,
to take my atoms like so much trash is
taken by the trash cart still, I shall cling...

It's the inevitable emptiness
I shall not even leave a space behind,
this soap-bubble of my brief consciousness
will blink, snuffing out my life-spark and time.

But that vast blasted space will just expand
I can only curse at my shrinking sands.

For illustration only.

One should be enough. A new one. Thanks for asking.

Unrequited Love

In shadows cast by love's elusive grace
an unrequited flame, a bitter taste
a heart yearns for a touch that's not returned,
a silent ache that's deeply felt and earned

my every breath is a whisper of desire
but you hear me not, nor see me
my love knows no bounds
but my love dance is alone

my heart beats on in hope
remaining strong even in pain
wishing I had a siren song
to lure you into my arms

I suffer in unrequited love
ever strong in a bittersweet embrace,
a testament to love
and yet here I stand alone

Have You No Shame

In TV’s glow, embarrassment embraced,
as news unveiled a world, so darkly traced.
Aghast, we witness humans hurt their kin,
a tale of pain, where callousness begins.

Desecrating bodies, spreading hate,
this modern shame, our shared, destructive fate.
Within this shame, a calling of concern,
to heal, to care, where empathy shall burn.

In healing rooms, where comfort is the prize,
we’re seeking truths with compassionate eyes.
To grasp the essence, care beyond the art,
in healing others, mend each fractured part.

Inside us lies the power to redeem,
to mend the heart, the world, the broken dream.
Yet some, unswayed, on darker pathways tread,
no shame within, a troubled path they thread.

The Soul-Crushing Cosmos

"No rational intelligence rants against reality."
-- the poet a non-romanticist

*

From simple things, all complex things evolve,
the simplest things the quantum dust in space,
the force and matter bits which soundly solve
the genesis of us, the human race --
the "you" and "me" reduced comprising naught,
save space and tiny quantum building blocks,
the atoms, chemicals, and cellules wrought
by evolution's process orthodox --
the undirected flux without a brain,
and thus without a purpose or design,
its being but an endless causal chain
sans love for any lyric rhyme divine --
or fondness for a faultless sonnet writ
by countless quantum whits of sense and wit.

Contest: Twisted Sonnet

Sponsor: Rew

Form: Shakespearean Love Sonnet to Physics 101

Major Poetic Technique: The Irony of Reality Harsh

Theme: Beyond all rational doubt, at the quantum level, orthodox evolution reveals
a non-conscious universe uninterested in "me" and "you."  How twisted is that?

Potentiation

The busybody auction blockhead boys
chomp at the bit to denigrate the meek
with foreseen labels like "loser" or "freak"
as peace is what whore purpose destroys;
a cold ambition, so gravely misled,
but to instigators most addicting
when by its coercion soon predicting
who's left behind and who will get ahead...
ahead of all except the greater good,
whose teamwork would have else wise provided
the most to make of any neighborhood
where wit and effort are coincided
with surplus stacked like seasoned cords of wood...
for houses standing...wholly undivided.

A Liar

The thing I detest truly seriously undeniably
Is an individual that can lie effortlessly
Lying just to be...
Lying just to me...
Lying just to keep..
Lying so deeply
They don't know it inevitably
Turns the one they're lying to into an enemy...
Not knowing
Not realizing
Not innerstanding
All the repercussions
All the destructions
All the stressings
It's  only causing...
And determinedly
They keep on elaborating
To the lies that have already
Been exposed by ones truthfully
Trying to get me to see and believe
The actuality
Of this situation
I have put myself in...
Loving on someone
Someone who's mission
Is selfishness and heartlessness uncaring
Unaware, not realizing
How close they are to being
Six feet, naw, Eight feet under
In a casket their favorite color...
And That's why I detest a liar
Because it takes me out of my character...
Because I don't want to become a killer...
