Birch tree tarp

Raised by trees
Baby hands on trees
Even from the start

The anchoring feeling of dry birch tree scales
Awakes memories from generations past
An old ring on the surface of our water
That still rolls
And expands
Infinitely

A passer by kicks my tree
So my tarp of leaves now rattles
A branch breaks and falls in my lap
And I recall
Memories from generations past
Nature has been the common enemy

We are the fish
That conquered the land

Scarred Bark

Tall barren trees with fallen leaves
Outstretched arms as they grieve
Praying for relief only given by the Sun
Always in the crosshairs of man's gun

Wanting to run before someone yells timber
Evading the fate of being gone 'til November
Embers of their dreams are being extinguished
While many take a blind eye to how they're anguished

Some choose to still wish upon the falling stars
Even though their barks are stark with keloid scars
From afar, where you are, they seem to be whining
Ignoring how, during every season, they are dying

Scarred Bark Part II

Admiring the trees with colorful leaves
That're falling from high as they grieve
Leaving some trees barrenly undressed
That just can't handle constant duress

Stress from storms got 'em torn & battered
Beginning to lean like a rose that's withered
Tethered to pain of epigenetic proportions
Trying to stay sane after late term abortions

They gotta use caution when standing tall in fields
Executioners are lurking while out carrying steels
Making it harder to heal as bark's peeled everyday
When roots are uprooted, miseducated, or taken away

destruction...

dust was blowing
in a whirlwind
is now buried
under the asphalt

Instead of fog,
toxic fumes
appear in the air

Today's man
has fallen in
love with
measuring
the length of clouds

Earth's beauty
is being robbed...
human curiosity
is increasing

Questions are
being asked
 to the moon,
the sun,
the river,
the mountains
and the sea..

The winds
are blowing
 in the direction
of destruction.

Darkened Nature

Can you lie awake with me tonight
I hear the scratches in the walls
Hell is trying to get out into the light
It wants to know all of yall

Can you feel the darkness as it surrounds
Yes that is your heart beating like a fucking drum
The world is bleeding all around
We all want to see Hell come, want to see Hell come

The ocean just burped micro particles of plastic
Garbage island isn’t a myth it’s a fucking fact see
No one wants to take responsibility for the oceans being so tragic
They act as if all of the ocean’s pollution appeared as if by magic

Hell is behind my eyes and is fucking with me
The oceans are on fire and they are boiling blood
My mind is telling me that I’m just watching tv
It’s hard for me to tell what is from what was

Seems we use to have rainforests all around the world
A billion hectares in forty years, half of the rainforest in a century
The Amazon is loosing twenty thousand square miles a year, yeah heads swirl
At the current rate without locking these people up, the rainforest only has another century

People are so gullible listening to capitalist in their fight for profits
Climate change is bad for business, so they’re telling their peons to stop it
To rally behind their cause while drinking out of plastic bottles and bags
Particles of plastic bleeding into their food and drink until every toe has been tagged

Hahaha, yes cancer and dementia are on the rise globally
The doctors and scientist has joined the profiteers, the true bullies
The rainforests with all of their natural cures are being slashed and burned
While diseases are waiting in line in labs to get their turn

Do you know nearly anything can be created from hemp or bamboo
And for this reason I can see why you allow them to make an ape out of you
Furniture, paper products, clothes, and shoes can be made
Building material, biofuels, detergents, and bedding did you hear what I said

The profiteers don’t want this so we allow them to destroy the earth
Hemp is stronger than cotton and more durable showing it’s worth
Bamboo is as strong as some metals and yet we refuse to grow it
We cut down hard wood trees and only replant pine, so now act like you know it

If numbers and love are the only things that can be true
Maybe nature planted a certain number of trees for both me and you
The profiteers and their plastic are irrelevant, they were never factored into the equation
Yet we allow them to decide what’s to be and if it’s all worth saving

Desert Evening

Mesmerized by late afternoons with pink and purple skies
Haha Cactus and me watching tumbleweeds racing by
Dust devils swirling away trying to move this dry heat
Be careful where you step fossilized history is under your feet

Hello there Mr. Rattler, how have you and Mr. Scorpion been
You could had sent word to me by way of the Wind
I know that it's not a dependable means of messaging
It seems to be down time and time again

And when it does come around, all it seems to do is stir up dust
Ripping and roaring, he's a bandit that can't be trusted
So the Cactus and I, we look to the sky praying for it's nourishing rain
Every drop a morsel of love trying to extinguish the pain

But Pain is a viper, capable of slithering below the desert sands
The Cactus and I found a lonely plateau, where we could sit and hold hands
Skin broken and thistles bent covered with thickening blood
The monsoon season is upon us, but we're prepared for a flash flood

Plenty of nourishing joy pouring down with little to no saturation
This Cactus's love is the only thing that has achieved true penetration
To little for to much is how we've decided to live
Our existence is to take continuous pain, but beautiful love is what we give

There an armadillo watching as a gila monster and horned toad make love
Woodpeckers and roadrunners take to the Cactus for a better view from above
For all of our existence this type of display was strictly forbidden
Even the coyotes and mountain lions refuse to consummate unless completely hidden

So within an act as small as a gila monster and a horned toad making love
Within the once flooded sands paying tribute to our blessed flood
There was a bowing of our heads, all things high and low
As our pink and purple sky was blessed, and wrapped in a pretty rainbow

Where have all the antelopes gone?

Where, oh where have the antelopes gone
leaving the lions to starve all alone!
No more herds to be seen on the savannah
no more young or old to become manna
the sights have become more and more rare
extinction growing large from nowhere
the hyenas cackling and howling,
their empty stomachs constantly growling.
Vultures circle overhead,
only finding emptiness and no dead,
scavengers play the waiting game,
never getting to chase the game.
New appetites begin to arise,
the hunter becomes the new prize,
with no more prey to seize
there is new blood on the breeze.

Nature's Concert

The rainbow sings against the sky
its colours dazzling way up high
blessed by drizzles from above
where clouds silently reside
below the blue lake slumber
fringed by weeping willows
that slips their drooping boughs
to the water below
under this tree, I sit
feeling gentle nature at its best

Clashes of clouds way up
the warm and cold collide
frenzy come the thunderclouds
spitting ferocious lightning
and roaring thunderclaps
the azure sky then turns to grey
the sun hides it’s pretty ray
the rainbow sighs out
and nature’s orchestra begin to play
full-fledged thunderstorm

I sit under this weeping willow
witnessing nature’s glorious show
the whipping lashes of the rain
the thunderous applause from above
the lights lighting up the roiling clouds
thousand watts of flashing beams
the stage the mountains and the forests
the drum rolls and the cymbal clashes
an encore and then silence
balmy cool air takes centre stage
and the concert is over.

The Earth Speaks with Anger

I am Earth; I am a life form that can live forever.
My formation is a spectacle to behold.
I am the most beautiful planet in the constellation.
From my soil, humans were taken.
And to my soil, they will certainly return.
Mortal beings have a short lifespan.
I keep all creatures alive for a limited time.
Mankind is an undesirable being.
I regret that man was made out of my resources.

Foolish humans have polluted my atmosphere.
I can hardly protect myself from the sun.
They have spoiled my beauty with deforestation.
My pure water they have contaminated.
And they have ruined my dry surfaces.
Mankind is the worst creature in the universe.
They have removed my vital minerals.
My stones and metallic particles they have mined.
And my oil, my blood, they have drained.

I am Earth; I do not need humans to survive,
But they cannot live for one minute without me.
Humankind has been ruining me for millennia.
The destructive activities of mankind cannot continue.
I have been a faithful home for humans,
But they have been trying to end my existence.
The extinction of mankind is inevitable.
It is evident that wicked people will never change.
I have reached the limit of my patience.

No longer will I put up with the insanity of mankind.
I have provided food in abundance for my inhabitants.
Ungrateful humans bite the hands that feed them.
The damage they have caused will take centuries to heal.
I must repair myself and restore my paradise,
So I shall destroy humans with natural disasters.
Plagues and pestilent I shall unleash on their generations.
I shall burn humans with wild forest fires.
And I shall bury them beneath toxic volcanic ash.

I am earth; my anger has risen against all people.
Mankind will see the power of my elements at work.
Lightning will strike their towers and their fields.
They will freeze to death in ice and snow.
I shall demolish their cities with great earthquakes.
Tornados and hurricanes will leave nothing standing.
I shall flood their coastal towns with tsunamis.
The bones of miserable humans will rot in my soil,
But I shall preserve the lives of other living things.

First of all, I want to thank everyone who took part in this one. Thank you for giving me so much to think about & making the decision so hard that I had to call in reinforcements to help…multiple reinforcements. Let me be clear, every one of these entries was a winner. But after much deliberation, the consensus was as follows:

Death Becomes Nature, by Naajir took the trophy. The stark view of nature’s & man’s own downfall felt sadly prophetic if things don’t change. It was a very impactful message. Congratulations!

Darkened Nature, by I_Is_me is awarded runner up. There was so much information & truth in your words. And while it didn’t start as it was expected to land, it was a strong message. Thank you for bringing it to the table!

The Earth Spoke, by Her is also awarded runner up. The volumes of conversation you covered in your short entry was rather breathtaking. Thank you for entering it in this comp!

Honorable Mentions:
Global Warming Warning, by wallyroo92: Seems like this process is well on its way to fruition already. Whether or not man can turn it around in time…who’s to say? Thank you for sharing this amazing piece!

Earth Speaks with Anger, by PittinixDesigns: The earth is angry indeed! And rightly so. Man is his own worst enemy. Thank you bringing this strong piece to share.

Thank you again to everyone who took part & brought your incredible talents & minds to bear here!
