It’s stuck on me like a Tattoo

Poetry Contest

Write a poem using the word “tattoo” as your prompt
Write a poem that includes somewhere in it, a theme on tattoos. Whether literal or metaphorical, the tattoo theme should appear in your poem.

Where does the prompt take you?
What memories does it trigger?

Extra points for thinking outside the box.

Here’s “Tattoo” by Loreen that I’m low key obsessed with right now for some inspiration:

Skin tour

It was more
than enough

to admire
each black
teardrop
fallen,

an eye
without
words.

The Hunt

I need a man with face tattoos
and spiked hair,
bloody knuckles
and a tortured soul;
not to save,
to play with.
Because
"you look like how I feel every day"
means more than
anything else
ever could.

Stuck with the Same Tattoo As You

*

A true tattoo indelible deep etched inside my brain
right states, "NOT EVEN I AM WORTH A CHILD WHO DIED IN PAIN."

Cloister

Dead-end lips…
Not knowing where to go,
after parting!
Mark on the skin.
Fake tattoo!
Kiss dropped.
Punch, bite!

I don't know if I want you
I don't even know where I am.
blood lost in
auricles…

Mystery that runs in
artery network.
the fingertips
creeping up walls
of anti-matter! (?)
So many runners without
direction; plates
on the opposite way,
hang tags.

I do not know what to do
I don't even know where I'm going.
So many windows and
Trusses and lattices.
Bricks tattooed on the walls.

The thoughts
entwined in the foam
of the roaring sea.
In echoes in the shells
asleep.
I don't know if I still remember
what I don't know
of the most forgotten things.

Tattoos

I dislike them.  In full.
From the cute dolphin on the leg
To the ugliest whatever designs
On arms
On legs
On the face (all over) where you can
Hardly see the person's eyes

Ugly at 18
Imagine how much uglier
At 81.

Ink

A dream etched in skin
A nightmare drawn out with nowhere to…hide
A picture
A verse
Any representation of the self no matter how simple, eclectic or diverse
The ink gives you a sense of individuality and pride

It’s the long-term commitment to self-expression
The enthusiasm that will try the test the rest of time
It’s the desire to standout from everyone else
Even when many are the same
The visual illustration of the mind

How do we decide?
What makes us unique?
What does a tattoo say about you?
How do we show the universe we are well versed in our own ken
How do we perceive ourselves
In comparison to how others see us
Maybe the ink gives you time to think and meditate to find your Zen

Snowflake of Hearts

On my forearm, right below the elbow,
A design that I've been planning,
A rebuke of each of you, blow, after blow,
For me, and everyone who's different, you've been banning.
A little snowflake made of hearts,
Soon-to-be inked in a gentle pale brown like a birthmark,
To represent the turning away of your hearts,
And the resilience I've always had towards y'alls remarks.
The bullying I faced on that afternoon, will stay with me to this day,
Not for the hurt, but because here I stand, and here I stay,
The cold never bothered me anyway.
