my white bird has angel wings
and flies with me
always making me happy
always bringing light
to my shadows
my blue bird is powerful
as an eagle should be
my bird is careful
as any bird can be
my pink bird sings me the day
brings me the night

To whom I’ve never met
Before my own friend
left this world, left his shirt
hanging on the dresser,
he told me I’d been nothing
but a positive in his life
I allowed it
as death ate his bones
and there lingered
a strange absence
with no earthly place to go.
I think
on those words often
how they arrived
unannounced
soothing something
in us both.

I think of our time

realising that all of us
