The Bone Core

She had the palest blue lips,
Like the victim of a drowning.
I kept her in jars tied around my waist mostly.
“Samples of my chromosomes, you see!
The meaty parts of them, where the smooth turns of their skeletons collide!”

Sunlight bore across her Christlike back.
She glowed like thermonuclear honey and the velvety skin of off-world aquatic life.

Why am I in this state.
It is a dirty opera,
A beating.

My self is weeping for synthetic concubines and spectral night watchers.
My self is slipping on the rubber suit of time traveling and poisoned tea.
Floorboard walkers of statues and acid and embryonic stem fields -
“You have bruised your feet against my primordial teeth!”

Retaliator

Her skin was like dusty old citrus peels.
Cold in the ground, she waits.
“Bad moon rising,” geriatric mutters from greasy gasoline counters.
I was passing through town, gates of death, in my disguises of human flesh, and hair, and fat cells, and floral depravity.
Her screams echoed in my mind.
“Choking back the migraine tears and electroshock scars with fingers gripping tightly the tubes of steering wheel and the glass electricity of alarms.”
Musicality.
Firefighters brought her body down from the scorched tree.
She was so tangled in its branches.
Now, finally free to go into the night and reap her revenge.
A luscious disease filled our nostrils, twisting us into characters, villagers.
So close, I held her that one last time.
My body wailing against her drainage and pounding fistfuls into the mushy brows of...of nothing. My cot was cold and damp.
My spirit, defeated.
My self, entombed.
Love had been punished.
That will be my accusation against all of you.
My fever rides me to the season of inferno.
Her hair was autumnal and stacked with river reeds.
Her eyes swayed with rot, glowing green with insectoid hymns.
The lumps of her body scratched at me.
Forever in her baptismal waves.

crisp tang sweetly crosses
my parched lips;
fruit and roses ripen and bloom
your skin comes to mind
its blossoming flows familiar paths
until it rests warmly
in the depth of my cold belly

frost is already creeping
upon the golden plain
though Autumn has scarcely
had time to prepare
the way

unfocused eyes won’t obey
the open book upon my lap;
three hours have passed
I wonder how you are today
and I can’t remember a thing
of the last 50 pages

parking lots are treacherous,
glossy ice makes mockery
of the most cautious of steps;
even the sky has turned his back
and the sun stays cozy in bed

an old lambs’ wool blanket
with origins long forgotten
wraps gracious arms around me
I wonder if it’s warm where you are
a snug afternoon nap is seductive,
calling me softly to rest

I missed everything you did. For some reason I though now was a good time to continue my education.

This

I'm the villain
That be spilling and instilling
Somehow willing unfulfilling
Never killing

I'm the gritty
In the city
Itty bitty
Gas $1.50
Feeling shitty
By committee

I'm unchosen
Snowman frozen
Road is closing
Nothing goes in

I'm a writer scubadiver
Crazy fighter
Match and lighter
My insider

Senryu Menu

(A)
Upon reflection
Sadly, it occurs to me
I am no one’s muse.

(B)
It didn’t hurt a bit.
A shot that made people nice.
The prick that cured mean.

(C)
What’s this all about?
I don’t know, can’t you tell me?
Oh god, we’re both lost.

(D)
I need someone who
Will see life as I see it.
Not through a bottle.

(E)
Don’t just read the first
thing you see. Please dig deeper.
I’M in there somewhere.

(F)
Insignificant.
Your comments did make me feel.
I'll never tell you.

(G)
There. You’re forgiven.
What crap will you conjure next?
Drink, lie, repeat, cry.

(H1)
The difference is
You desire to be on
Everyone’s radar.
+
(H2)
In contradiction
I prayerfully only want
Singular notice.

(G)
The sun always shines
After the worst of a storm.
Just hold on tightly.

(H)
You are beautiful
No matter how hard you try
Thinking otherwise.

(I)
Beware of wishes
Coming to fruition as
They can bite your arse

(J)
I’d love to write sweet
Nothings. But I know of none.
Alas, you get these.

Senryu Menu II

(K)
Why do we fear things?
In the end it comes around
to what it will be.

(L)
If you had been at
liberty to speak, would you
have said you love me?

(M)
I see a future
devoid of pain and sorrow
T’would I live that long.

(N1)
I’m afraid you’ve seen
me through such dirty lenses.
A shadow of dust-
          ***
(N2)
I am to the world.
Merely swept into the bin
and lost forever.

(O)
Praying and hoping,
my wish, at last was granted.
No returns...damn it!

(P)
Lost civility
my niche of solitude has
provided me strength.

(Q)
In sunshine I found
a wonderful surprise and
learned to love myself.

(R)
Lies and secrets are
not at all interesting.
Only deceitful.

(S)
You hide your beauty
behind a thick veil of pain.
I love you anyway.

(T)
Is this really it?
This is the summit of my
hard work and toil?

(U)
I walked a mile
in his shoes and found that I’m
better at his job.

(V1)
I can’t help wonder
if events were different
would we all have met?

(V2)
Amidst a dreamscape,
I fell sick for love of you.
I’m fine, now get lost.

(W)
Taking advantage
Makes me hate you even more.
Why continue it?

(X)
Denying your age
Will not make you sexier
Only pathetic.

(Y)
I loved romance but
I never understood it.
I wish I could have.

(Z)
Zed. The end is nigh.
I’ve enjoyed these senryu
I hope you have too.

broken tree >> on river bend

Upon my bough,
June breeze pins me to the scene.
Brow of my beloved
Astride an amethyst trunk,
Arched towards rainfall
Tears the bow of harboured ships.

Old fisherman shares a nod -
Awkward reverence of existence -
Objectifying space between us.
The comfort of strangers.

Riverbed reflects a painting:
Into which we step,
People of oiled canvas, as
Burnt matches unframed.
Sunset sulphurs
Strike tomorrow chime.

Looking down into drowned
Weeds, savagely whirling,
On verge of uprooting.
Carcass of sunken yacht
Lies compassed on borders,
No map dares to bear
Locations of survival.

The Llangernyw Yew* knows my name, but
Shied away from sharing her moonlight.
Walking in footsteps of lonely walkers
En route to a vodka trail, pallid lips seeking.
Turned back to see nothing but mist:
Further into the fog I had fallen.

Old fisherman ignored my waves
Be thought of yesterday ripples,
Consumer of all the threads he has worn
His ruddy face wears a pugilist plinth.
Forget-me-nots border the path
Some beheaded some crushed,
Their stalks stand in stealth.

There is a force on the
Other side of the river:
Beyond oceans cities continents
It pulls me in magnetic majesty.
Cliché bruised me to sing Moon River-
It was the shortest walk home.

*Oldest surviving tree in Europe. Conwy, North Wales. Visited seeking solace 5 years ago.
