Autumn
Contemplating the fall
Of the withering leaves
Onto the broken sidewalks
In the city
As I lay here pained
My ankle twisted and sprained
I called into work
Stayed in bed to recover
Downside: sprained ankle
Upside: didn’t have to go into the office
Things are looking up this fall

Do you remember writing
With words you didn’t understand?
Having touched lust
Assuming you know all that sex can encapsulate
Talking about the burning in your soul
When your soul didn’t even reach tepid
Until you were twenty-three
Feeling the fullness of emotions now,
I wonder what is still in store for me
Does it always grow? Or is this the limit?
I used to write bigger than I knew.
