Poetry Contest Description
New Member of the Month Feature!
Welcome to "New Member of the Month"!
You have 3 weeks to nominate Your favorite poems from a NEW DUP poet - someone who has been a member for no more than six months.
To locate New Members simply click on 'Poems' > *Latest Poems > Sort Poems > New Members!
Please note the following guidelines when making nominations:
1. Self nominations are not accepted. The great majority of the competitions here are about spotlighting one's own work on a particular topic or theme. This is a chance to nominate that poem that you wish you had written but some other great talent here beat you to it.
2. Until this comp is established, there is no limit to nominations; however, you can't nominate more than one poem per individual new member. *****
3. No DUPLICATES. If someone nominates the same poem the entry will be deleted. If you like it that much wait and vote for it!
4. Any genre except erotica or pornography. This is a Facebook feature and we must adhere to their guidelines.
5. Any member who is banned or disables their account PRIOR to the win will be automatically disqualified.
6. One win per member per calendar year ( 12 months ).
7. All nominators should notify their nominees of nominations.
8. PLEASE DON’T NOMINATE RECENT WINNERS ( see list below )
Any nominated member who wishes to opt out of the competition may do so by messaging me. I will contact the person who nominated you and request an alternate nomination.
Nomination Duration is 3 weeks followed by a week of site voting!

No S on My Chest
Chorus:
When the world's in trouble and the shit hits the fan
I'd rather be Clark Kent than Superman
I work hard and I give it my best
But I ain't walking around with no S on my chest
I may have become more than a little bit jaded
But I always thought Superman was highly overrated
It's easy to go through life with good looks and super powers
Save the day, then fly in the sky for hours
Clark Kent has to go to work just like me
And be what his boss wants or at least pretend to be
Hiding behind a simple set of glasses
We fight through life like we're maneuvering through molasses
Yes, Superman does it all with incredible ease
Saving the day then flying off in the breeze
He never has to clean up the mess he leaves behind
That's left to me and the Clark Kent kind
Chorus
And just like Clark, I know I'm stronger than people know
They only see the part of me that I'm willing to show
And just like Clark, I pretend it doesn't matter
As I watch the Perry Whites getting fatter and fatter
Yes Clark Kent is my hero
Clark Kent is me
Cause...
Chorus
When the world's in trouble and the shit hits the fan

I work hard and I give it my best

Cinematic Demon
Burning alive in a metaphorical catechism
Learning to lie in a allegorical masochism
A spider soul enrolled
In the web of the golden dark
Caught here and consoled
In thee occultic hidden arts
This is silence seeking gossip
A prison under fire
It's a lashing with your tongue
Under siege I will acquire
The purifier of everything
This moon is under sun
A cryptic writing saying
You are the chosen one
A sefirot secret in the number eleven
Diamond water drips off these bones
Under water falls the cliffs of heaven
The blood thorn of the sacred stone
A septagram inside
The sigil of conquered ñight
A sacrificial goat
To ensure your charming life
The state of dualistic devision
From the magic of my knife
A ritualistic incision
May darkness bring you light
Black versus white
Tomorrow found today
The illuminatic works of a magical clichè
Preposterously impossible
I will not stay away
Please stop all your hearing
Of words I never say
An overlord with wings
The scarlett beast a priest that sings
The light of the living darkness
And the mystique of hidden kings
What's the color of the devil?
I immediately think of red
What about the shade of God?
What's the color in your head?
A cinematic demon?
Or an angry angel dead?
No point in all this talking
Not another word is said

Mirror Masked
Dreaming at midday
Feet glide on clouds of stolen memory
Who is this person walking in my shoes
Looking in the mirror
You are not me
Dreaming at midday
Skin slicker than ice
Who are you talking when I speak
Slurring my words
You are not me
Dreaming at midday
Watching you from the dark of the moon
Feeling you from the core of the earth
Who are you
When you are not me
Feet glide on clouds of stolen memory
Who is this person walking in my shoes
Looking in the mirror
You are not me
Dreaming at midday
Skin slicker than ice
Who are you talking when I speak
Slurring my words
You are not me

Watching you from the dark of the moon
Feeling you from the core of the earth
Who are you
When you are not me

Thank you David, for entering this fantastic piece by arortiz73 however, this particular comp is for the nomination of new members who have been at DUP for six months or less, therefore the poem “Gettin’ Gonzo OnThe Galveston-Gaines’” does not qualify for nomination.

So, a disqualification seems appropriate given that minor technicality alone, however, is it of no merit that I have been missing since 2013?? I posted little to nothing back then before unspeakable tragedies befell me, and back then I definitely wasn't at the capacity then that I am now. So in that respect, I AM a completely reborn, new writer to this site. Wouldn't it just be more interesting to let the rest of the community crucify me, via an alternate vote? :D

I can certainly appreciate that you have been missing from DUP for some years, and I would certainly not argue that you feel as though you are "completely reborn" however, this particular comp is for the nomination of new members to DUP (those who have been here six months or less as shown by the "Member Since" date on their profile page).
If I allow established members who haven't submitted in X amount of years to be nominated in this monthly comp thread, then it wouldn't really be "New Members". It would be New Members and Established Members Returning After A Long Hiatus.
If David (or anyone for that matter) would like to nominate your poems, the Poem of the Month comp would be the more appropriate thread.
I really dig the fact that you have come back swinging after such a long departure. I hope that you can understand why I cannot allow the submission of your poem in this particular comp thread.
