A Personal Peaceful Landscape

The sun has always shone
Even when the wind has blown,
The flowers bloom in turn
As the seasons come and return

The vista is so very wide
From mountains to the lake side
Fauna living on this land
Harmoniously and hand in hand

Each creature has its role
Sets out to achieve its goal
Conflict is so rarely heard
No fights nor a harsh word

I have been lucky with my life
Balanced family, lovely wife
Even when the wind has blown
Misery is hardly known

Night's Child

The silence sings, weaving sacred lyrics
strong and delicate as spider’s silk
My eyes are filled with fantastic stars
hands outstretched to catch the moon

I dance barefoot upon dewy grass
waiting, longing in darkest night
Earth and I wait with bated breath
for the very first glimpse of dawn

Nowhere

this red dirt road
these thistles gone brown and gold
on a high bank where it curves
up past Shumpert's trailer

the tangle of woods there
its ragged beauty like a secret
whispered
pine to pine to sycamore
to green oak and laurel
and to what small life forages amid tangled roots
or rests on grey branches bared to autumn's chill

and all of this mine in these quick minutes

and these words like a prayer of gratitude

To Moor, and you.

In the ineffable density of woodland, where bottle green moss envelopes rubble
from houses abandoned, there is land
long fallen
to the Moor and her ways.
Tree roots bind
together overlapping, breaking, suffocating.
Fungi grows, epiphytes, bracken springs from swollen soul
and light is gently dappled trickling on the dawn,
cutting through leaves of oaks
facing their next season.
The wind sings, tits, finches.
It is yours,
your church before you were looking for a place,
your space when you weren't searching for a home to feel found -
longing
for a soundless hollow to be lost,
here
in the kingdom of earth,
you couldn't be held higher
and I am beside you, around you. I can hide you, child,
from a world so blue
when it swallows
yet won't embrace you
because
I'm green
through and through.

featherweight  a sea burial

its hard to lose a chosen one,
the body guards, uniform;  fling an An Arm
back to the sky
sharp back to a cloud
who sprung
  adopted hush, the cogs
these hhsssshh! of  clouds
 …disappear, they pray
and where…where-then they pray
in lightening to reconnect,
to An Arm stretched shoulder deep
into the earth; do a must,
to the tips of roots, tender ends.
to see lay c clay tertiaries (coal seams
and the  kingliness of  a ceramic pot.

Soliloquies and families of cormorants are in
into tin sea-burials
  are …in….
to  outbursts, to  inner thermal cloth.

Autumn woodlands

Autumn woodlands
dressed in russets…

winey reds and
evergreens…

purple berries sweetly ripen...
golden grasses blow.

Along pathways leafy rustles
frosty sheen...evening glow.

Back here

I’m back, in these, 4 walls
Before I left, there was paint,
that covered them all,
it seems every-thing
That’s bright,
Just fades and dulls,
 I had it all,
Now it’s faded and dulled
Don’t worry because

I’m here with the alcohol
I’m here with the drugs
I’m here with everyone
That I’ll never love
They’re what I needed
I don’t want to need them again
You’re all I’ll ever see no end
Can’t hear your voice begin
Or I’ll start remembering
And lose myself letting you in

I’m back, broken down,
The Walls vanish,
so empty and okay with all of this
the help I turned down
Words never heard,
They echo off the walls
Its all I hear now
It seems everything that’s bright,
Fades and dulls
Like these 4 walls that surround
Everywhere I look consumes And reflects
I was bright

here with the alcohol
I’m here with the drugs
I’m here with everyone
That I’ll never love
They’re what I needed
I don’t want to need them again
You’re all I’ll ever see theres no end
Can’t hear your voice begin
Or I’ll start remembering
And lose myself letting you in

Now I can’t keep staring,
at all the white
I’ll go blind stumble and fall
I had it all, I had it all
Now I’m faded and dull

After the Floods

(  prose poetry )

A storm grows in the high desert, low to the sage with the windy gusts where grass & brush bends, and the air crackles with sparks, and lightning forks fracture like bony fingers across the threatening sky that light up the bird life taking shelter. Till at last the storm splits open, washing everything below aside with a deluge where the moaning of heavenly hosts let loose a warning where the season of fires months before had stripped the trees on the distant mountain rim down to bare twigs and naked earth with spikes where once were trunks of majesty. From eroded hills come the floods, gathering speed as the lightning strobes flash with blinding strikes, and winds howl without mercy.  The downpours seem endless, as iron rails and barrels rattle and roll through angry dark storm clouds. An hour later, the mass is moving on, and the thunder’s rumble is heard less in longer intervals, with the sound of what seems like a thousand faucets, their taps turned on full force as the floods race through the foothills and gullies down to a dry riverbed that suddenly comes alive, taking dozens of tumbleweeds along for the ride, and the intensity of the late afternoon is finally revealed with the last of the storm’s retreat.  The land preens, the Joshua shimmer, while already the flight of birds begins to brighten the clean scapes with their swift surveys for nesting and foraging.

The Mountains

The terrain might be a little rough,
But the view from here is quite surreal,
High above the plains in the mountains,
The scenery has a certain appeal.

From up here the trees go on forever,
Rolling in between canyons and hills,
And the path that only few dare take,
It’s a journey of adventures and thrills.

In winter everything is covered in snow,
As the highest summit stands alone,
By spring the rivers begin to flow,
Where wildlife and flowers have grown.

Though there is always danger of fire,
Up here all is quiet and at peace,
It’s everything one can admire,
As the wind blows through a sea of trees.

And here, the path between the mountains,
It leads away from the drudgery,
It’s the landscape where one can escape to,
A journey of self-discovery.

Heritage outlook

The piles of ore the tunnels bore
Smoking chimneys now devoid
That golden age, now exhausted resource
Time and tide has weathered one
 Features blends with craggy lines
Soon to be reclaimed
That blot, that abandoned mine
Slowly collapsed on life's skyline
Resting, morphing in settled respect
Towards mother earth
The sliding shale of that neglect
Was painted on my landscapes canvas
Where work, not beauty claimed advantage
No shame, a contentment in the spoils dark face
