Police Spying
In the UK there is an ongoing public inquiry, the Undercover Policing Inquiry https://www.ucpi.org.uk/
"The Inquiry’s purpose is to investigate and report on undercover police operations conducted by English and Welsh police forces in England and Wales since 1968."
One aspect of the inquiry will relate to Mark Kennedy Stone https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/sep/21/met-bosses-knew-of-relationship-deception-by-police-spy-mark-kennedy
Can you write a poem about this betrayal, or any other aspect of undercover policing and the effect you think it has on individuals and society?
Not only the direct victims but what about the police officers who lose their identity (consider P K Dick's, A Scanner Darkly)? What about the suspicion this sows in society as a whole? For example, the police infiltrated and spied upon the family of Stephen Lawrence https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/apr/17/stephen-lawrence-police-officer-allegedly-spied-family-identified-david-hagan but was the person who murdered Stephen Lawrence an undercover policeman? Repugnant to imagine but how do we know that isn't the truth?
Are there any other aspects that this procedure brings to mind?

Mark Kennedy Stone: an Enemy
For years, undercover police
had secretly, covertly fleeced
and infiltrated citizens,
their fam’ilies, the denizens
a reason they would finally howl
a mighty hue and cry as: FOUL!
No justice offered, just excuse.
One’s race, an activist, a ruse,
or heaven help a woman’s truth
to be in fullness of one’s youth;
who let her feelings for a start
be tangled in affairs of heart.
The secret fellow makes believe
a good intention, yet deceives.
The lies to get her in her bed,
to coax to have his way instead.
The fam’ly, unaware the fall,
For love of daughter, kin and all.
The Met, The Yard, atone and try
To look the public in the eye.
How could a man so blatantly,
sleep, and fool the citizenry?
A photo of the two in love?
Look closer; of a wolf & dove.
It leaves us with a bitter taste;
to trust authority - a waste!
For all these years, half century,
two generations’ memories.
Gone is a faith to him the shame
You only have yourself to blame.

The sleeper
Fleet St headlines shout in red
the eleventh hour. hold the front page
we have got the inside track
scoop! put all hacks flat on their backs
the phones all ringing off the wall
a melt down gripping all Whitehall
At MI5 they scratched their heads
how could we mitigate this mess
deflection and evasivness seemed best
there may be some collateral thats lost
and us the innocents that pay that cost
Sleepers like a fifth brigade
the man that sits next on the train
carrying a Lugar or a Smith and Wesson
just an encripted presence
In the grey they dodge and feint
double "0" question mark aint no saint
a sorboquet that has no past
smoke and mirrors balancing act
A machiavellian of deciet
breakcover and then dissapear
when the puppet then breaks free, untied
in the cold to be debriefed
the headlines on the Sunday Times
Where the lines of right and wrong
predudice that divide submerge
hold all the aces in your whip hand
be the man with the golden gun
copy a template of John McClane
Dark opps has opened pandoras box
where Hard and Die are never stumbling blocks
carries his own wig and gavil
decides just what is good, what is evil
a maveric or just a double cross

Deception (Spies, Love and Lies)
Live a lie long enough and you’ll start to believe it,
It’s perilous to mix a falsehood with the truth,
Oh what a tangled web it’s so hard to achieve it,
Especially if the covert work turns uncouth.
But when the government gives a license to lie,
Then who becomes the real enemy of the state?
The pros and cons of a con who’s there to pry,
When spies without disguise try to lure and bait.
The line between reality and illusion is hard to draw,
A play to play round the clock as the world’s a stage,
Like a mole (or a rat depending which side of the law)
Deception is a dangerous game to portray and gauge.
Democracy is an illusion when the rules have a glitch,
Especially for infiltrators who go on without detection,
Lie for a living long enough and loyalties can switch,
The moral compass will change course and direction,
Yet love always seems to be a determining factor,
It’s a conflicting emotion between targets and spies,
Going undercover is just basically being an actor,
But it’s not really love when it’s all based on lies.
