White-Eyed Corpse
Samantha didn’t know where she was. Her foot was heavy on the pedal, gliding down the open, hilly slopes of the backcountry. Cellphone in one hand; the GPS buffering. Twice already she almost crashed. Approaching out of the horizon was a yellow SLOW DOWN-SHARP TURN-15 mph. Samantha pressed the clutch as the momentum leaned her forward; the seatbelt fastened behind her. GPS still buffering, Samantha flew past the occasional country road which posted: UNIMPROVED ROAD - PASS AT OWN RISK. Then one caught her attention as it approached; SLOW DOWN – SHARP TURN… she rolled her eyes.

Empathy~Spirit Child
Trying to ascend
the dark presses in on me
and will not relent
It tastes the grace of my being
light fettered
with midnight's last regret
My soul is not my own
Was it ever, I wonder?
Little redeemer
falling through time
chastised
a vision left aching
and mute
The cosmic equalizer
comes on quietly
hunting my dreams
cloaking himself
with tunnel vision
In the darkness
innocence weeps
at misunderstanding's sake
while sonnets of faith escape me
and my Father
Wisdom ...

IT MIGHT BE UNDER YOUR NOSE
I love and use a story I heard
years ago, the source I do not
know or the author.
It had been a beautiful and fun
day, the annual family reunion.
After the crowd had left for home;
a couple of families were staying
overnight with grandpa and grandma.
Grandpa had retired to the bedroom
to escape cleanup duties and take a nap.
Two grandsons with an eye
for mischievousness slipped some
Limburger cheese and went into grandpa's
bedroom and spread some in his mustache ;
soon grandpa aroused with a few curse
words...

I had my last appointment with the foot surgeon today. The bandages and stitches were removed and since I cancelled the surgery I had scheduled for my right foot, there’s no reason for me to return. I asked for a referral for physical therapy, and I scheduled an appointment for next Wednesday before I left his office. I want to start rehabbing this foot. When I got home, I put a daily exercise alarm on my phone and Vase made me a veggie egg white omelet. It was a good morning, and I was happy, something I haven’t felt in the last few days.

Guardian
Together we roam the forest,
walking the loam and tilting our heads to the sky.
I think I've found what it means to fly.
This lushness, envelopes us, as we lock eyes,
finally on the same page,
a product of our creative Nature.
We suckle, from this gem, that floats to us, shyly.
Lay back on fern cushions and
floating sofas.
Join hands, in this prayer of wisdom,
life is much more meaningful beside you.
Mighty redwood, mighty woodpecker,
filling up on the vibration.
Each act, an act of worship.
Survivorship, the...

The Beginning of Something Old
As dusk fell on the city of Marseille, with icy waves lapping delicately on the docks below and streetlights beginning to paint the pavement beautiful shades of amber and gold, two identical and shadowy figures lie hidden as they await night’s veil. Neither do much more than flash a shiny and crooked grin as the lamp nearest to their corner flickers, then fades out. The gloom falls over them like a heavy blanket, allowing them to slink around the brick corner and out of view of the naked eye. They continue walking, each shape matching the other’s pace to perfection until they near a second...

Ana & Mat
It was a random evening and that day I had decided to spend it with Ana. I made some tea for her and considered the thought of sleeping with her at a hotel. Even though we lived together I wanted a change of our routine. So slowly we headed to our car and made our way to the 'Venice' hotel which was 30 minutes away from our place. Going there was smooth with some jokes and smiles as Ana did always have a sense of humour and was talkative. As for me I was more silent and would think a lot in my head but never deemed those conversations to be percieved as interesting for my company.

Gentle Nell
This is an excerpt from a book I'm writing. Any feedback on things like the readability of prose and enjoyability will be greatly appreciated!
Nellie Gibson was known as "Gentle Nell" in the same manner of irony that allowed for enormous men to be called "tiny". She was, in truth, a nigh-on lunatic, though until recent months, collected enough to lead a band of criminals through several escapades. Her lieutenant was a man called Morris, who sometimes, on looking at her, wondered if she'd ever taken a man to her bed and pitied any that she had. She was not a...
