the song contest
The song contests
I came across an apple tree it looked like
a child’s idea of this type of tree, big red
apples and a blue sky; when I realized I do not like
big red apples have farinaceous and taste
like they were dreaming of becoming potatoes
and not picked at by bird.
I joined my wife she was watching the final
Of a song contest, the finalist were two women.
One was buxom and belted out a song with full voice
the other one sang sweetly like opening the window
and letting a songbird and sunlight in.

The Cosmic Hobo
The Cosmic Hobo
Beer fumes on the hobo heaven run
In our orphanage where grey is the color
For grown children of the night
When lightning cracks my veneer
With the truth that I will ride
That freight car to New Orleans
In all its cavernous graffiti
Until my whiskers populate the universe
That has come to be home
Beer fumes on the hobo heaven run
In our orphanage where grey is the color
For grown children of the night
When lightning cracks my veneer
With the truth that I will ride

In all its cavernous graffiti

Lost Hermitage of Youth
Lost Hermitage of Youth
Township Baileys of melted donuts
Instead of Irish Coffee
Where we sanctify the sweetness of the air
With natural cooling for our crispness
Down the road to peak 10,443
Where the steeply forested valley
Rises with our footsteps
On our pathless ascent past log cabin ruins
Artist lady speaks homilies to Denver
Like a disciple of the western sky
My pondering meets hers
“But the culture is a fallen church,
On the riverbanks of love.” ...

Untold love
I suppose I'm a little drunk,
Because I'm pretty into you tonight
This bourboun built the courage in my wounded flesh
Wanting to touch you and kiss you under the moonlit night
Do you feel cold?
I feel numb
The distance between us
has made my lips parched
Perhaps you could speak up...
Please lend me a helping hand...
And wrap your arms around me with the warmth of your love
Because I'm pretty into you tonight
This bourboun built the courage in my wounded flesh
Wanting to touch you and kiss you under the moonlit night
Do you feel cold?
I feel numb
The distance between us

Tomorrow's Daughter
Tomorrow's daughter
she speaks to rainbows
her head is in the clouds
no her feet don't touch the ground
Tomorrow's daughter
she has tea parties in the closet
whispering poetry to ragdolls
no she never makes a peep or a sound
Tomorrow's daughter
she points toward the sun
her eyes pirouettes around the moon
she can see the wild flowers bloom
Tomorrow's daughter
her friends they sit on step stools
spreading jam on points of toast
she watches the sparrows fly

dark lif matters
Dark life matters
Woke up in the night it was very dark
put a hand out couldn´t see it.
I wonder how it is to be blind?
In this flat, if no one rearranges the furniture
it would be easy, find the kitchen too.
Opening the fridge is a breeze, it is of no interest
if its light comes on or not.
Remember to clean your hands!
On nights like this, I should be contemplating my death
but my vanity gets in the way.
Should I smile or look grim, and would they remember
to put tanning cream on my face?
I friend of mine who works at the...

A Rice Paper Tigress Named Gloria - Epilogue
A Rice Paper Tigress Named Gloria - Epilogue
Gloria says, “Boy, I am headed to Swarthmore with a banjo on my knee. Do you know what that means Mr. Boswell?”
“Well unless I drop out of substitute teaching and head north to the great state of Pennsylvania we may never cross paths again.”
“That is right. And the tears this brings me are the bluest of the blue. Please tell me the odds are in our favor of meeting in a restaurant here in Baton Rouge during one of my family trips home.”
“The odds are a million to one. But what are the chances of kindred...

17 and 11/12ths
He's sobbing, overwhelmed
on the edge of adulthood
desperate to be told who he is
while balking against all limits
A joy and a treasure since birth,
what a gift that he shares
this tender heart,
this need for mom's hugs
And if I could, I'd relieve his confusion
But all my wisdom feels useless.
I know now,
I will have to witness
him gathering his own.
on the edge of adulthood
desperate to be told who he is
while balking against all limits
A joy and a treasure since birth,

And if I could, I'd relieve his confusion
But all my wisdom feels useless.

A Rice Paper Tigress Named Gloria
A Rice Paper Tigress Named Gloria
This is a high school where I am a substitute teacher for young pianists, flutists, and organists who birth notes with fingers on fire. During their practice sessions, I just melt in my soma zone while they strum my heart with the music of the Gods.
The young ladies chatter like Chickadees with gentlemen in a lyceum where Bach can’t compete with green grass and blue skies. So we follow the sun onto the campus green where lasses are peonies whose windblown fragrance is a kiss for lads while I sit in a Buddha pose with the heart of a...
