daddy
time has passed
I'm no longer a child
but so often I find myself reaching for the seventies
the very air around me felt different
easy-going and free
my daddy was still alive
a hard man but I knew I was always safe
God I miss him
fast forward to 2020
nothing is sure
paranoia and masked people
it's been a year since I've seen loved ones face to face
in isolation, I deal with my depression the best I can
I don't want to die drowning in my own body fluid
this is serious
people are dying alone and...

FUTURE SHOOT IT CAN GET REAL
When you see and look at ME what do you imagine what my life would be as a child ? For I did not chose my life nor my family or parents or life, as it was given to me from my birth into this life's existences. Mentally and emotionally and physically for I didn't ask to be born, into this world full of so much destruction and hatred and jealousy, along with the greed and corruption for the almighty dollar bill that adds nothing more but separate of the races. Carried along with the hurt along with the process of the pain and suffering. Filled with so much destruction and separation and...

love this feverish temper
i burn fluently high now...

There was a time when all seemed lost ...
Pandemic
Circa 2020
Working from home
Often minimal engagement
Most my customers were shut down
So living on a shoe string
Not much to do
Eventually started to paint again
The job precluded Art
Always on the road
Too tired at night or weekends
But then the pandemic
Suddenly more time than work
Out came the paints and brushes
I call this painting “Time Lost”
In the seemingly lost days
I painted for hours
It was something to do
A big deal day was when I sold one
A trip to the...

The 2020 Chip Down Blues
The torture tune of trauma town
Rings in my midnight ear
To say to me when chips are down
All merriment will disappear...
When introverts, not the warrior,
Will be the ones that thrive
When city streets get gorier
As intubations survive...
More so than those who shriek and shout
In a rally or ugly crowd
With an unwitting spittle spout
Ever and anon too proud...
Since salvation comes, as you will see,
Packaged in humility.

Cashier Visitation
Why couldn't I condition myself
to a box in which everything
was kindly set for me?
Does the box make you shiver? Does it?
It's set, another wins!
Also, why should I be a friend
of someone, the disgusting!
Pay attention to the baggage.
To the most crowded suitcase of all.
Does the bag make you shiver? Does it?
Everything that is full is not a closet,
The closet, by all accounts, is empty.
Are you upset about how empty it is?
Does it hurt you to see the closet so empty?
I saw the dark instrument of...

A Sestina for Jade
Statistics said she didn’t stand a chance
Now I wonder more about why she’s gone
The words she wrote had something else to tell
While on lock down when we were on all indoors
Like a foreboding to reflect on life
As everyone else had to stay apart
And then as we all tried to stay apart
We didn’t know who amongst us stood a chance
While many were very careless with life
The plague swept away and then they were gone
As she wrote about being stuck indoors
Suffering with something she wouldn’t tell
But then again...

anxiety vi (love and dying)
Sometimes it feels like
I can't get a break
I've been sick for months now
random viruses, cold, flu
anxiety depression
funnily enough no covid
I worry about my health
mentally
physically
spiritually
My dad's had covid twice now
he's in hospital with a cough
that won't go away
and needs oxygen to breathe
they say he might have lung cancer
but can't run tests
until he's covid negative
We're not good with "I love you's"
so I text him
asking if he's doing okay
and that I hope...

When They Came For Me
From racial disparity to gender inequality
Medical insubordinations have gripped sociality with its falsehood remedial jargon
From Covid-19 and all its variants, the cancelation of woman’s rights to a new uprising pandemic and that is now Monkey Pox
The depopulation insignia of America and its dirty concealed secrets and it is always a bipartisan agenda
This life we are living reminds me of the infamous poem, First They Came by Martin Niemöller
Hidden agenda by the government is at an all time high
The latest is the Monkey Pox, debacle it...

The Teaching Task
Lockdown over, I had to head to school
my pupils waiting to learn the golden rule
I got ready and put on that mask
following the health protocols is a must
How would I each word articulate?
and those whole lessons explicate!
***
Principals in their towers have their say
and teachers, Skills For Life, have to convey
So eager to see my pupils and join the classroom
no time to spend with colleagues in the teachers room
Just virtual wishes.. Love and hugs
and the joy of all the social media tags.
