My Dreamy Graveyard
My dreamy world of writing
is a graveyard shrouded in fog.
Where each story has a grave,
each grave has a character.
These living, breathing corpses
with open eyes, raspy voices
and souls, gaze on through my eyes.
is a graveyard shrouded in fog.
Where each story has a grave,
each grave has a character.
These living, breathing corpses
with open eyes, raspy voices
and souls, gaze on through my eyes.

"GUNNA"!!
Gunna, tell on you cause, I'm gunna testify!
Why?
Cause I'm gunna cooperate!!
Cause if not, I'm gunna go to jail!
So I'm gunna do probation, and free myself from this label 🏷 once none as "YSL"!!
Gunna, gunna, gunna, hey 👋 gunna go you know me, gunna, and I'm gunna tell!!

Rosa Rugosa
They plucked the petals
of this Rosa Rugosa.
Lusting after her bloom,
to be torn and thrown.
Her prickles, unworthy
to be found and held.
They abandoned the dregs
of this wrinkled rose.
of this Rosa Rugosa.
Lusting after her bloom,
to be torn and thrown.
Her prickles, unworthy
to be found and held.
They abandoned the dregs

Intimacy Blockade
Intimacy Blockade
Where to begin
When
The mascarade
Ends,
What's the use
Of pretending?
It gives
The appearance
Of everything's
Sending
That message
Of perfection all day.
When the lights
Come on
And the bar
Shuts down
And the ring
On the finger spins round,
What was the point
Of starting
This
Fling
When the darkness
Was all on the ground?
Where to begin
When
The mascarade
Ends,
What's the use
Of pretending?
It gives
The appearance
Of everything's
Sending
That message
Of perfection all day.
When the lights
Come on
And the bar
Shuts down
And the ring
On the finger spins round,
What was the point

Jesus Cannot Take my Loneliness Away
You say that Jesus can assuage
your loneliness.
But that is something he can’t do
since he’s become a ghost
and since the only certain cure
for this condition lies
in having someone who, empirically
has earthly physicality,
a real, undoubted, human presence in the world,
reach out in space and time
to touch your skin
and hold you in warm arms
of flesh
then sit with you in silence for a while
and speak out loudly afterward
of friendship
and of love
in words ...
your loneliness.

for this condition lies

Reticence
Only just a child
latchkey kid run wild
youth forever lost
Far too old when young
baby on a ladder rung
learning to climb alone
Abandoned and unprotected
reticence perfected
survival, nothing more
Building walls for preservation
dependence upon isolation
yet hardly staying safe
Harboured secrets meant to keep
now recalled in unquiet sleep
I suffer still in silence
latchkey kid run wild
youth forever lost
Far too old when young
baby on a ladder rung
learning to climb alone
Abandoned and unprotected
reticence perfected
survival, nothing more
Building walls for preservation
dependence upon isolation
yet hardly staying safe
Harboured secrets meant to keep
now recalled in unquiet sleep
I suffer still in silence

Shape Shifter
I've inhabited many rooms
for varying lengths of time.
In each I learned
a new shape that fit,
and sometimes it felt like home
(until it didn't)
and the people felt like family
(until they didn't)
and the shape felt familiar
(until it just
didn't)
And I'd go through another door
by choice or by force
and learn another shape
in another room
and it would feel like home...
And another storm would come
and another wind would blow
and suck me out another window
into another room ...
for varying lengths of time.

Photographs, a collaborative diptych
These two poems represent a collaboration with a sleeping DU member, who spends his spare time writing on the sole of his slipper with a biro. The first poem is mine, the second is his.
Human Remains
We returned to the house
a time after
and mowed the lawn
and painted where
the paint had started to peel.
And somewhere in the process
we found photographs of how they looked
when they were young
and their home hadn't yet become
a mausoleum.
She wore pink crinoline on special occasions
and he wore moccasins. ...

Sadness washes over me
Sadness washes over me
Laying here so sad and alone, it makes my poor heart bleed, sadness washes over me, for a true love I have a need
Someone to spend my life with a love to call my own, to share simple moments with so I'd no longer be alone
To hold tightly in my arms to be entwined in a sweet embrace, to smile at whenever I get to see a smile upon their face
To laugh with or shed a tear, someone to give a goodnight kiss, to have them there when I awake would truly be such bliss
Is it to much to ask the universe to send me someone to...

multicolored
made of blown glass
so easily shattered
beautiful with all it's facets
a mosaic of pain
with the little bits that make up my memories
broken then put back together
a stained glass work of art, multicolored hurt
break me anew and the look is different
as my emotional facade
always on display
breaking so beautifully
serving you my torment
it exists because of you
you are my center
I am the amusement
that keeps your world turning
your mistresses eat my torture
aching in the dim light ...

Breaking Tide
So I say tonight, that I am breaking like the tide. No shores to find so that I could break inside. I'm a cowboy lost on the plains, without a steed to ride. My thoughts of you cut deep. That I bleed inside. I'm the face of the moon, my world is dark so I have no place to hide. My dreams wept last night, in my sleep I heard them cry. And my screams grew wings so I let them fly. Oh yes my flesh is weak, yet my spirit never dies. And at sunrise, I found no warm shores to welcome my breaking tides.

Charades (Co-write with Adagio)
In this charade of life
saving the last breath
for fools
in their capsule of death
with no metamorphosis
to fall back on
for a fool lives in a shell
of their home-made hell
feverishly fretting
lying in suspicious watchfulness
for an ounce of kindness
to be found in their version
of an unkind world
