City Poems
#city
City poems about life in a city or large town, anywhere in the world. Poetry about the thrills, challenges and culture of urban life in the bright lights of a city. City poems also include poetry about the landscape of built up areas.
of course you didn’t wait
making up a poem in my head or
wherever one does such a
thing is, I wasn’t looking where I
was going to write it
down the pub
you tut tut and stare at
your watch and I’m thirty five minutes
past late
wherever one does such a
thing is, I wasn’t looking where I
was going to write it
down the pub
you tut tut and stare at
your watch and I’m thirty five minutes

If You Want My Opinion
Look, Penelope. If you want my
opinion, I would say moving
yourself to the city of
Los Angeles is more
better than staying
here and letting
Dad give you
only
grief.

The One Day My Sister Picks To Do Some Nude Photography
Alexandra was standing naked
and staring at the Manhattan
skyline while Rachel was in
the process of snapping
some photographs just
before Brandon
walks in on
the two
friends.

Brisk walk, windchill
Leaves paint shadows on the sidewalk
A small flock of sparrows flit away
Avoiding my footfalls
A book tucked under my arm
I think of you fondly
It's the distance
Sending signals across the pond
Marred by fatal crossings

(broken) City Streets
the wretched burnt-orange sun
beats down on my broken car
as she thumps mindlessly through potholes
with windows down
we gaze at clowns
and the derelicts
and the dirty tricks
as they crawl
across the pavement
the lively beauties walk
amongst jackasses and Gemini's
confused hooligans steal
from random pedestrians
to feed addictions
fulfilling a need
they mean you no harm, indeed
despite their transgressions
we're all devoured
by our own deceptions

Locked In this space
Blown in the space
Wreck on our hands
Another 4 years in waste
On the block 20 and the bait 23
It is the moment we could have hit the jackpot
My space mate in struggle
Different opinions in bigotry
Echoes on the space
My breath oozy in the stench
We hit the poll
To pull the PO matrix
It was vibrant joy in the space
A time of liberation draws near
Our sufferings to be written in the sand of time
Long time in our history
We could beckon call of hope
Drum of liberation
Is the greatest of...

Summer's Almost Over
Summer's almost over
I feel like running backwards into it
The nights are getting cooler
Almost sane
People are walking the streets with a weary step
Three weeks ago they were running to the liquor store or running from the police
You would also hear people in their bedrooms fucking or fighting
Now the boss isn't such a bastard
School just started
My wild dreams send me back to sleep
The suicide rate will go down
Marriage & death rate too
It's winding down my friend
I can still hear the echoes of the sun
The screams...

Cracked Concrete
Overpass loaded past its weight
Skybridges tumbling to the ground
Rusty rails bearing no freight
Empty warehouse making no sound
Walking through pockmarked roads
Signs covered in peeling paint
Dreary colors by ghostly abodes
Reeking of atrophic taint
Dead bulbs under setting sun
Where is the streetlight?
Muzzle flash of pride and guns
Blood staining the starless night
Another lost to this urban decay
Young eyes see through chain link mesh ...

more’s the city
I go out this particular
morning it all seems so
different, unrecognisable streets
leading to places I didn’t know
how I came by here last night or
where it is I might go

The Road Home
The leather took me in like forever,
forever as a driver in quiet weather.
Flowing left and right,
cutting corners, while outrunning the others.
Turning the wheel with great hast,
shifting gears to keep up the pace.
Long road ahead, treading like a thorough bread.
Dodging traffic, getting graphic, something hectic,
road games straight to the core.
Burning streaks, at clutch speeds, tires peeling against
the road.
Speeding, seeking, four horses feeding, no signs of yielding.
Pistons reeling, squealing, kicking up a...
