The Mirror

When heartache has wracked your mind and soul
    for long--
You lose sight of what is important and fail
    to remain strong.
Looking into a mirror becomes a futile attempt
    at seeing anything worthwhile--
All you see is ugliness and reminders it has become
    impossible to smile.
Seeing each time how awful you have seemingly become
    to yourself--
Makes it seem that being wanted and loved is an
    unattainable wealth.
The terrible image that looks back leaves your soul
    hollow and empty--
Trying to fill that echoing silence becomes your main
    priority.
Searching for someone to make all the lonely emptiness
    go away--
Is the only goal that keeps you striving for fulfilment
    day after day.
But then someone comes along and helps you finally
    understand--
That no one person can make it all better for you, they
can only offer a helping hand.
You must be able to look into that mirror and see your
    own beauty--
Before anyone else can look at you and truly see what
    there is to be seen.
Helping you realize that there is something there, you
    just need to be it--
For only you can bring out what is there before anyone
    else can possible see it.
With the new knowledge of yourself and the open eyes of
    a hard won soul--
Look into that mirror again and retrieve what all those
    heartbreakers stole.
See what there is you have to offer to those who care to
    be let in--
Remember that before you can rely on anyone else... You
have to be your own best friend.
Only then, will you have an abundance to give away to
    someone else--
For you are so much better  a person when you understand
    and love yourself.
Keep that mirror close to your heart as a reminder of how
    far you have come--
Scared, insecure, lonely... to a person full of confidence
and strength who refuses to be numb.
That mirror will be a momento that there is no reason to have
    needless doubt--
There is something there that is worthwhile and precious,
you just need to find a way to let her out.
