Show and Tell
Today is Friday,
That means its time for Show and Tell.
All the little kids gather round
And just like always each kid brings a picture.
A photo of their family, all different,
But still a picture.
Mrs. Johnson encourages it.
“That's the way we do things”, she would say.
“A family portrait is the best way to express yourself”.
Apparently that what Show and Tell is.
You express yourself however you want,
But there are rules to follow and abide by.
Little Timmy doesn't like that, he hates rules.
So this time, he brought in a poem.
He read it aloud, proudly.
He broke the rules at Show and Tell
That means its time for Show and Tell.

Can relate to Little Timmy. As junior school child in England I rebelled against the practice of "news books" by writing about animals I had read about (budding naturalist then but made no career of it) as I thought (without knowing how to describe it) that it was intrusive to write about things going on in your home. Did not encourage me that I lived in a community where everybody seemed to know and tell on everybody else. Were I as articulate as I am now I would have pleaded 'breach of privacy' as my excuse.
