Harbinger of Light

Tolling bells for one who went
Train rides on midnight hour
To the land where river crosses
Dark waters beneath the boats
Spectres with bony fingers
Caresses the bottom
Of the sailing vessels

Soar through the air, the angels do
Touching wings as soft as downs
Wiping tears flowing from eyes
Deemed closed and yet they see
As the silent dark rowers
Bring the souls
From here to there

Guides with light
Guard the sight
From hearts that shine
With love divine
For a salvation other than death
Beneath the wings of messengers
From divinity unseen

Thus through the air
Soft as gossamers
Fly the seraphim
Against bursting clouds
Lighting darkest nights
Of sorrowing crowds
Bringing them into the light.
