The rock
The rock upon which
I write,
On the large face, eastwards
Chiseling out the way
Each letter in time
Three days to write the story
Of my people's
journey towards God's glory,
From sunrise to midrise
Toiling in the hot desert sun
Then unto sunset
Sweat pouring down,
Each pore a reminder
Of the great journey across the
Desert and towards God.
All that time ago at forty years,
Have I carved out God's name
In the sweat and the tears,
Upon the rock.
I write,
On the large face, eastwards
Chiseling out the way
Each letter in time
Three days to write the story
Of my people's
journey towards God's glory,
From sunrise to midrise
Toiling in the hot desert sun
Then unto sunset
Sweat pouring down,
Each pore a reminder
Of the great journey across the
Desert and towards God.
All that time ago at forty years,
Have I carved out God's name
In the sweat and the tears,
Upon the rock.
