Image for the poem COFFEE

COFFEE

(Inspired by profile picture of DU poet Jestalessa, which showed her smiling with a coffee cup held close to her face. This is not the same woman as the person in the borrowed picture used here!)

“Would you like to come in for a coffee?”
I thought that you would never ask it me.
Don’t get me wrong, I only want to see
You, at ease, in your home territory,
Be served something simple at your fair hand,
Warming, sweet, stimulating, understand?
I’ve drunk champagne, wines, cider, beer - but think
Coffee is the king of the bonding drink.
Capuccino, latte, whate’er you’ve got,
Give it to me sweet, milky white and hot!
