Voices

Voices,
so many voices
vying for attention
screaming for recognition
for a ear to listen
to their woes

My mind is full
of these cries
for an empathic acknowledgement
that their plights are justified

The summoners range
from banshees in distress
to meek whispers
dampened by despair

These messages
bounce around my mind,
all pervading
worming their way through every crack
and filling every corner

This mind babble is corroding
the forever fraying threads
that tie my soul
to my sanity

It's tormenting
I find myself contemplating
cutting the strings
that've been holding off the edge
and tumbling over
into the world of whim

A fantastic place
where you deign to fulfill
every suppressed desire
shameless in your pursuit
of every passing aspiration
but also a land
lost to responsibility
and alien to the concept
of consequences.
