Hiding Her Past

Her peers pass her by daily
None take notice of her there
She fades well into the wall
No one seems to care

Her skin is like paper
Thin and pale white
Her hollow eyes search the halls
Lit up by buzzing fluorescent lights

She hugs her books to her chest
Her posture worse than most
Her skin is harboring something deep
She is sheltering her ghosts

Her past haunts her every day
The demons never let her go
Past threats force her lips shut
Her pain will never show

Her innocence ripped from her
Her eyes beheld the sight
Of ten thousand executions
That one fateful night

The crowd cheered on as her captors drew near
Ripped the cloth away
Violated the poor young girl
Left for dead, her body lay

She stays plastered to the wall
Her transparency keeping her safe
From any prying eyes
Or questions that bind like a snake
