We Have Dreams
We have dreams to compensate for life's shortcomings
without them, we are homesick nomads
wandering through plains of extinguished hope.
I had once dreamt of a soaring, pure voice
with a tone that poured a concrete foundation
but through my own deceit and dishonesty
I hear nothing but hollow echoes
that I know are there but I can't catch them.
My dreams taunt me for I've thrived in sin.
We have dreams to compensate for life's shortcomings
without them, we are homeless residents
sitting by the windows with only reflections of ghosts
staring back,
staring
straight through us.
