Nameless One

He walked through the city in the early night time. The sky was clear and beautifully dark blue. Nothing was open and no other person in sight. His eyes wandered across closed shops and dark windowed apartments. It struck him, that he had no idea how he got here. Suddenly the ground opened up and he felt himself falling through an endless void.

He was awoken by a terrible scream. It had been his own. His mouth was dry. The city and then the darkness. Now he was in a bed. He looked around and found himself in a small room with white walls. It occured to him he was in a mental asylum. This thought prompted him to get up. He couldn't. He was strapped to the bed.

He had tried pulling on the straps as hard as he could, to no avail. After that he'd started shouting for help, but no one came. He had shouted at the top of his voice for a long time. Now he felt exhausted and had resigned to just staring at the ceiling in silence. What was that? Footsteps outside the door. He should have felt relieved. Instead a sense of utmost dread overtook him, as he watched the door handle move.
