Solar Max
Up all night in Boulder
they know the calm before the storm is over
They say it could start any day now
like waiting for sparrows in Spring
On the beach in Mexico
beautiful auroras
flicker in the dawn sky
their giant flares advertise
Cycle 24 the main event
Northern Lights vacationing
way down South
while the sun licks its lips
Coronas burst
and surface volcanoes
larger than Earth
start to stir
gusting solar winds
traveling a million miles an hour
spawning storms in space
while the sun licks its lips
It's only 400 years
since records began
though the sun's age
is more than four and a half billion
so we cant be sure
we wont fry
when the sun licks its lips
next time
Long ago
a priest on a pyramid
gazed far into the future
carved runes for his visions in stone
a warning before his people died out
while the jungles grew back and waited
until the sun licks its lips
once more
they know the calm before the storm is over
They say it could start any day now
like waiting for sparrows in Spring
On the beach in Mexico
beautiful auroras
flicker in the dawn sky
their giant flares advertise
