October Poems 2024 >> dreams, for the moment, inarticulate

A poem for each day of the month in which I was born

DAY 22
dreams, for the moment, inarticulate

just let me get the hell out of your face
and save myself from consummate disgrace.
feel free to strike my name out of your book,
me disentangle from your cloying hook.

the price of love may be a sacrifice
of sanity, to gain fool’s paradise
—or, better still, the lonely hangman’s noose,
whose living were superior in recluse.

no man on earth could love you as i do,
no heart could brand you with more fervent glue;
but, what the heck, flourish blind confidence!
i famish with the greater evidence

that perfect fear may void imperfect hearts,
whose eminence booms not of private arts,
but secret, sacred, sacrificial love
that shallow seekers are unworthy of.

i take my leave into my oyster shell,
where may reside new mysteries that compel
the shattered spirit to rejuvenate
dreams, for the moment, inarticulate.
