THE ARTIST PAINTS (Part 2)
A collaboration by Kitty and Grace
The artist tries her hand at poetry
Reads many books on the craft
Studies poems written by the masters
Great Poets, contemporary and of times gone by
Hieroglyphics on the wall
Touched by hands
That has grown old
Glory tales that has been told
Words have shapes and shades
Words command the meanings
That belong to the ordered sounds of one art
The ordered contours and colours of another
Indigoes and orangish hues
Paint the leaves as they do fall
Bringing tall tales of their own
From the trees that they have grown
Every vowel has a different hue
As does every letter
The alphabet approximates
Both a musical scale
Plus a gamut of colours
Songs of birds from ancient keeps
Stories blown by billowing sails of ships
Tall tales and sonnets all
Brought by travelling bards of old
Tales descended to us all
Everything about - the look of a word
From the size and the style of the letters
Arrangements made of syllables and phrases
Laid so carefully on the frame of the page
Present a visual map
Like rainbows curving up the sky
Each hue so intertwined
With the other like lovers hands
Kisses and touches in words sublime
These are the frame of the human mind
Poems, like canvases
Present scenes, persons, landscapes
Seascapes, interiours, creatures, figures
Also like paintings, poems present abstractions
Thus the art of the verse
Resembles that of the painter
Thus you and I we paint together
Away from each other
Yet so together
Worlds apart
And yet so near
Entwined, the minds of artists and poets both
