Not Normal!
JD Vance called school shootings “a fact of life”
What the fuck is wrong with a country that accepts school shootings as normal?
What the fuck is wrong with a country that needs to train their children how to behave when someone comes into their school with a firearm to kill them?
What the fuck is wrong with a country when children consider line of sight in their school design or wear backpacks with armour plates to stop bullets?
Other developed nations don’t have this problem- traumatizing their children by practicing dealing with someone coming into their school with a weapon that was designed for warfare to kill them.
When I went to school, I was worried calculus, not dying because someone was angry.

Author's Note
How many more times do we need to read the news that someone has walked into a school, a church, a store a wherever and started killing. This is the opposite of normal. If you claim to love children, if you claim to love your fellow man then please prove it by protecting them from senseless violence and stop traumatizing them with the need to practice for active shooter incidents. Children shouldn’t be trained for war, they should be learning science, art, religion, history, mathematics whatever… not how to survive in a schoolyard battlefield.

What Vance didn't mention is that the conservative war on public schools is no secret and something their constituency actually desires, because they've been told that public schools are all about communism, which of course is total nonsense.
But MAGA will have it no other way. It's obviously become a death cult.

Hello, excuse me for poking my head in here.
I'm not trying to start an argument.
School shootings are an inevitability anywhere guns are.
It stands to reason the availability of guns could certainly make a difference in potential frequency.
The thing is why does Canada not have as many school shootings when they have about as many guns per capita?
In other countries with less access to firearms, the UK for example after knives were cracked down on (I'm not sure the specifics on all of that) acid is now the weapon of choice in a lot of cases. I also am only going off of what I've heard which could very well be incorrect. They may only report on such instances with greater frequency and neglect knife attacks (possibly to avoid looking inept).
The second amendment isn't a bad thing by any means. (Though with or without a set of guidelines in place rights are inalienable regardless).
Everyone has a right to defend themselves. We're all boney flesh bags, no one is better than anyone else and no one is more deserving than any other.
There is however, I believe a deeper issue as to why there is such a high amount of mass shootings or gun related incidents in the US.
Its probably a combination of things, glorification of firearms seems to be predominant there for one.
Which could obviously lead to a higher likelihood certain unstable individuals, choosing to vent their frustration with the aid of a firearm.
Guns are a tool, like any other tool and they can be misused, Anyone lacking morality will do bad things regardless. Criminals here (Aus) can get guns easily enough.
I'm not saying this to piss anyone off.
I'm just saying I think there are deeper things at play.
Politics is divisonary by design, compromise is the only real way to deal with things at the scale of any given population. No one's going to be happy 100% of the time in any given scenario.
Why let these people divide you all?
What does that do for any of you?
Why are these people so important to all of you?
Clearly nothing was done to prevent any of this animosity/hatred.
No matter who wins you're still gonna be divided.
What's the point?

Thank you for taking the time to reply - appreciate that you are not trying to start a fight and willing to talk about a divisive topic. I will need to take a little time to think before responding. Admittedly, my post was intended to start a fight. I am tired of constantly seeing news of more senseless deaths and people accepting this as normal rather than making meaningful changes.
Re: Re. Not Normal!
I appreciate the response.
I'm going to preface this by saying, I don't have really any faith in any system of governance.
I'm saying this to primitively dispel any contention. if I come across as a dick it won't be aimed at you, or is just unintentional.
What would you consider a meaningful change?
I'm not trying to be condescending by saying any of this. This is how I see things. I'd rather attempt to provoke thought than arguments.
They could entirely disarm the country, that would start a civil war.
They could attempt to (further) regulate a possibly, (likely) flawed system, which will ultimately only affect law abiding citizens.
They could gradually phase out the availability of certain weapons, also won't go well.
Tighten security at schools until they resemble a prison. (Which will only foster a different level of paranoia).
As far as I know schools there have metal detectors already in some cases.
Obviously nobody wants children to be murdered (aside from the perps). That's the thing though how do you shift that mindset, when ultimately humans are humans. We're flawed we always will be. There will always be those that are born psychopathic, or have another anti-social trait that lends themselves to violence in one manner.
We can't go the eugenics route and start breeding it out nor genetic manipulation (we need that aggressive part of ourselves). Another thing is it doesn't seem they're interested in stopping people from killing one another. They promote gratuitous violence in their culture probably more than any other country, while seemingly having a squeamish attitude towards anything overtly sexual (that could be argued but they ain't France, as an example). Not the general public per se but Hollywood, pop culture stuff. After generations that will alter perspectives/psychology on a fundamental level. Couple all of this with a the clear disinterest they (and a lot of other governments) have in doing anything about cost of living, inadequate wages, rent/housing. They couldn't care less if they/we die, (here it's not quite like that but we're starting digital ID trials in December, also Kenya is going to start chipping newborns around the same time). They want civil war in the states from my stand point, so they might go hard-core on gun control soon but it won't be to protect anyone but themselves. It's more likely they'll keep pushing the election bs as always and keep everyone pissed off. They're clearly not even attempting to mitigate that (which is thoroughly irresponsible for anyone claiming to be a leader). The system in every capacity is broken by design. I'm sorry this is long and rambling and may jump around and not make sense. I've been up for a while so I'm kinda fucked. I'm not trying lecture you, either.
I've had a long time to put things together and observe this world. Things I've been saying for years, are starting to be said publicly now by many. We need to change this world before their end game. No one will want to live in the world that's coming.
Governments don't care about any of us they're babysitters. They're aren't the answer.
I know this was about guns but people really do need to understand how connected every action taken is by them especially.
Yes you could say I'm paranoid but my kind gets called conspiracy theorists, for thinking. Which further serves to prove they want to divide and alienate instead of addressing concerns.
Ad hominem attacks only prove someone has no argument.
ok I'm done.
Feel free to tell me to piss off next time.

No, it's not normal in schools but in poverty-stricken neighborhoods it's
everywhere for some time now. I was raised around guns, at home and the neighborhood.
At home I knew better because my parents watched everything and the consequences
at home would be swift.
Things are changing for the worst where guns are involved.
And apparently, he was on the radar as a potential threat a while back - before this shooting.
I'm not sure what the solution is. Guns are out there - that is a fact.
But whose hands they get in is the problem too.
In schools - it should never even be considered.
I remember in school when boyfriends were all the drama and who
would dump who first:)

Not to climb upon a soap box, but...
Take it deeper. The U.S. has allowed too much degradation of what is the norm for a society to coexist. It's a moral breakdown across so many avenues. We become too accepting of the latest new low standards.
Yes, excess and access to firearms are increasingly a major issue. Yet, we had guns on our shoulders as kids, walking up the road, going hunting. Or, on a rack in the back window of a truck, etc. I'd bet kids had more access to firearms back in the day, because guns were not secured. It's just that 99 percent of people held a higher value to all human life back then.
The tendency to want to harm was much lower. Integrity was a given.
It is mathematically too late to restrict the amount of guns out there. What we can and should do is work on raising the standard of being good people overall.
It should start with more restrictions on internet content and access. Really. The guise of "Free speech" is not always a good thing. Too much dark material. It's not cohesive to a proper functioning society. Some is absolutely disgusting. There is no good why for it. None.
It makes people lose their level of what is acceptable, subconsciously.
We need better environments for kids to grow up in. And adults, too.

America should do as Australia did some years ago, have a buy back system for guns and stop them being sold to every tom, dick and dirty Harry.
But USA has the NRA and a constitution that allows the carrying of weapons....
