Visions Of September
It is the Autumn, of your eyes
I see them clear, I know them wise...
On Spring's green hill, we danced amongst pine
sprouting up and about, in pure sunshine
We spun our arms, we held on fast
impatient feet slipping, on dew-dipped grass
We fell together, two lovers too young
to love anything more, than having fun
We chewed on weeds and stared at the sky
layed amongst creatures too small to try
To see for themselves what all we've seen
a sun that wakens us, to the awe of Spring
Days came bellowing, in roaring thunder
so we sat in the barn, and cheered for Summer
In all its fierce power, and all its fury
but we held each other, and did not worry
We knew it was barking, with little bite
knowing lightning, rarely strikes
More than once, it's how we met
and now we hold tightly, having it
And the days piled on, stacking pine
upon the porch, building time
For Winter will come and replace the green
with snow and ice and brittle things
But love will warm us, by calm desire
to wait this out, to keep our fire
Inside the heart and within our eyes
Together knowing, nothing dies
So for now, we walk through the gentle Fall
as it lays its blanket, and covers all
Upon our shoulders, as we strolled
across red carpets Autumn unrolled
I'll hold your hand, I'll see your eyes
Where forever there's Spring, and nothing dies.
