Forever in my Memory
I'm looking at my hands and seeing my father
I do this often
He was a quiet man
I wanted so much more from him
His passion
An occasional embrace
Knowledge
I'm still searching in my hands
For answers that won't come
Still I try ...
And will continue to try
There's so many answers somewhere
There was life then death
I remain focused...
I do this often
He was a quiet man
I wanted so much more from him
His passion
An occasional embrace
Knowledge
I'm still searching in my hands
For answers that won't come
Still I try ...
And will continue to try
There's so many answers somewhere
There was life then death
I remain focused...

I miss both my parents.
They were good people and worked hard their whole lives. They were not without fault with raising children but they taught me a lot about humanity. My wife and I remember our parents daily and speak of them often with affection and honor.
Thank you for your comment and RL.

I love the honesty of this self-reflection. I guess our parents give us what they can... there must be aspects of your dad in you. Certainly your passion came from somewhere!
Thanks for sharing this, it's lovely.

After my Dad passed and when I switched careers I often felt him on my shoulder giving silent guidance.
I’ve talked to many people about their relationships with deceased parents and a lot of expressed similar “conversations” so I’m to get your comment K
BIG THANKS

Yes
It’s often hard for father’s and son’s to connect for various reasons. My dad was always around but he didn’t say much. But when he did I was all ears …
Many thanks Stoney !!

Dear PS,
This made me wonder if it might be possible you don’t need the answers. Your father would’ve given them all to you already and now we just look at our parents hands through our own and see what they dealt with and how we handle our own lives. It was just a pondering. Every time I put my arm through a sleeve my mother’s hand comes out of it. While the first time it happened it freaked me out now I see a woman who so loved her children. This poem is go beautifully reflective. Lovely write. H🌷

Re: Re. Forever in my Memory
Dear H,
I think you hit the nail on the head.
My dad and I had a quiet relationship. My mom was super vocal and protective, sometimes I wished she would have let me see more life than to shield me from the bad guys. It’s funny because sometimes my mom would feel my desire to have a stronger relationship with my dad and she would bend over backwards to tell me how much he loved us. But being a snarky kid I’d say I want to he hear him say it. Well it took some years but on my wedding day he let it all out. I look back knowing it was all true, he just had his way and it was a secret place that not many had access to. Often I feel him talking to me in symbols and hand gestures. I can honestly say in death when I need him, he’s always close by my side …
Your story about your mom and the sweater really hit home with me. Someone else feels what I feel. Amen.
My folks were wonderful people. I think they’d be happy to know I’m the Sheriff here…..
Thank you H

Oh fuck, man, this is tearing-up lovely.
He sounds like a good guy.
My dad was my grandpa, and he died when I was 12. You miss them forever, don't you?
I bet your dad would be proud, my friend.

My Dad was a really stand up guy.
I never heard one bad thing about him.
Worked hard and took care of business.
I guess I wa ls greedy, I wanted him to say more but his actions spoke where he didn’t. I was super lucky to have him and I model myself after him in regards to hollow I relate to people especially in the business world.
Appreciate your comment Betty
Thx !!

Maybe try something different. Some people just need to be taken out of their comfort zone. I hope you find the answers!

I hear ya. I sometimes long for his advice or his point of view. He also lost his father when he was about 24 or so. I guess it's that part of us that seek wisdom from our elders.
