Death of Calypso
My shoulders boil the waters
and I catch a sustaining breath,
face to the full moon
as the sea screams
around my new corporeal form
dripping with fury
and desire
my caprecious
lips curl into a
smile because
you called for me
on a dark sea,
lamenting the way your
heart aches
as if anchored to the
bottom of the world
I rise, flickering the night
like a strobe light from hell
as my body unpeels
from the obsidian ocean,
and your mind
sees me like a
shimmer of heat
on the asphalt
You flinch
at my cold hands
against your neck,
back straight
lips closed
arms crossed
but you called…
I’m here.
Ready to sink the ship.
Ready to maroon
on an island where
I try to make you
love me
and if I can’t,
if I can’t…
If I fucking can’t
I’m ready to ruin you
for mortals,
to fuck humanity
from your system
until you’re a molecule
of fury pounding
against me as I shriek
triumph to the
defiled clouds
bearing witness
The rain comes and the ship
lashes against open-water rapids
and I lash against your body with my
mouth, and hands,
and sex,
until you drown
in the triangle
juncture of my thighs
CPR taste
like my cunt
when I push air
into your lungs
and pull life from
where our bodies
are joined
As quickly as a
trade wind shifts
so do the clouds in
my eyes as they
train on you
soft
with ill intent
and mayhem
and I need you
I need you
more
the sea doesn’t give
a flying fuck about us
nor the wind
or the rains
or the tides
but I do
so I take you
into me
to sink
slowly
beneath
a tranquil sea
and your exhale
sustains me

As I read your excellent poem for a few moments I felt the magic of Greek Mythology...perhaps memories of Argonauts...Orpheus...Odysseus, etc. Thanks for sharing. Hugs and love, Oral

Thank you, friend. Yeah, absolutely! I had the Odysseus allusion woven in. The concept of Calypso and her desire was always a great trope. Does she sink the ship, or save it and sink the sailor.
I appreciate the feedback!

Please continue; it is rare today to read poets who have a grasp of mythology, etc. Love and hugs, Oral

Liked your footnote, now I realise who Calypso was. Possibly not surprising Jacques Cousteau called his favourite sea exploration boat Calypso, celebrated in John Denver's song.

Thank you. I either didn’t know or had forgotten the John Denver song. I’m looking it up.
I’m glad you enjoyed

I love the mythology associated with this one. There is goddess power within us all. . .we only need rise to it.

Dear B,
For me, I loved the power in this write. Unabashed sexual tension with some sweet sweet killer power. The mere thought I could create a tidal wave and take out a ship of pirates?? Yessssss.
Yeah yeah yeah I know I’m not supposed to want to hurt anyone but…
This makes me think of Calypso and did she hurt? Was she unhappy and that’s why she hooked up Poseidon? Im sure this was not the intent of your poem. My wandering mind will oft times tangent when least expected. As per, your writing is superb and I really enjoyed learning about calypso.

As per, your reviews are manna, beautiful Honoria.
I LOVE the power in the concept of a sea goddess. The ability to smite! YES! In my meanderings, I wanted her to go down, perish with the lover she destroyed. If anything, to show the only tenderness she's perhaps capable. She goes down on his last exhale, to the cold, black depths with him within her -- sort of old-time sacrifice shit I had in my mind.
Calypso ... so I was a Pirates of the Caribbean fan. When I was a little teeny little girl I wanted to be a pirate or a Muppet. The Pirates franchise captivated me, as did their interpretation of the capricious, fearsome, passionate lover, Calypso -- which was a beautiful deviation from The Odyssey.
I had a black sea in my head... and the image of a goddess with the temperament of a hurricane in love with whom she would destroy.
So my mind is weird too. (sigh) So weird.
I'll stop rambling. Thank you for the kickass feedback, Hon. Lurve you girl!

What the hell is wrong with you?!
All these (gasp!) Love poems lately?!
I'm absolutely pleasantly shocked!
Dammit, just when we all get new armor to survive your wrath poems, you switch up and make us weak at the knees.
Brilliant results, SFAM. I read the current four, and this one is the culmination of my thoughts.
It's beautiful results. And well, do I congratulate you for the "motivator"?

My BFAM, thank you!
Love poems?! Me?! No. You must have hit your head on an alligator or something. I would not do something like that. Nooooo.
Hey. Thank you. I appreciate the reads, and the kind words. I’m glad you dig it.

Nice try bucko, but they all have "love" listed in the themes! Don't hide your quite human heart!
I knew you had it in you, still.

Motherfuckshit!
I didn’t believe you. I almost exclusively write love and erotic poems. Neither of which have to be ‘love’ themed.
Surely that’s a tag I used, considering my subject.
I had to go back through like 15 pages.
Fuck, bro, you’re right.
I almost never used ‘love’ as a theme in the past unless it was paired with a destructive adjective like ‘hurt’ or ‘anger’ or ‘obsession’ or ‘grief’
Like… almost never. For all those years. All those poems.
And you saw that. When I didn’t.
Damn.
You really are my family in my heart.
