Rest
I crawl in
To bed,
Turn on my back,
And listen
A moment
For her gentle breath;
We lay
Like two-by-fours
In a truck bed;
I draw a breath:
‘I love you’
Her arm reaches
And consoles my
Uncertainty:
‘I love you.’
And she falls asleep,
Her cheek heavy
Against my rising chest.
To bed,
Turn on my back,
And listen
A moment
For her gentle breath;
We lay
Like two-by-fours
In a truck bed;
I draw a breath:
‘I love you’
Her arm reaches
And consoles my
Uncertainty:
‘I love you.’
And she falls asleep,
Her cheek heavy
Against my rising chest.
