THE DANCE
My love and I were
like two quail in a field;
eyes locked in a fiery stare
pursuing each other in a circle.
The dance was an endless journey
in the distance the whippoorwill
provided the music beat;
a woodpecker counted time
as ravens tapped their feet.
Locked in an unbreakable embrace
we danced round and round
the crickets playing their fiddles
and the chipmunks sang off key.
Only lovers connected to the earth
could raise such dust and interest;
in a few whirls the whole field
was alive with dancing moves.
Meet me at the Kissing Place
and we'll shed our clothes
and dance naked before
the eyes of the universe.
like two quail in a field;
eyes locked in a fiery stare
pursuing each other in a circle.
The dance was an endless journey
in the distance the whippoorwill
provided the music beat;
a woodpecker counted time
as ravens tapped their feet.
Locked in an unbreakable embrace
we danced round and round
the crickets playing their fiddles
and the chipmunks sang off key.
Only lovers connected to the earth
could raise such dust and interest;
in a few whirls the whole field
was alive with dancing moves.
Meet me at the Kissing Place
and we'll shed our clothes
and dance naked before
the eyes of the universe.
