Lost
I feel lost without you
Left alone in a hospital room
with just the memory of you
and the proof of our love in
my arms...
You were the love of my life
the rock that I could lean on
now I'm left with a face that
reminds me of you and a
severe lack of sleep...
There is no one to blame but fate
But how will I explain that to him?
When one life enters
another one flees...
I was never meant to make this journey alone
though you did leave me with a piece of you...
I miss you...
Left alone in a hospital room
with just the memory of you
and the proof of our love in
my arms...
You were the love of my life
the rock that I could lean on
now I'm left with a face that
reminds me of you and a
severe lack of sleep...
There is no one to blame but fate
But how will I explain that to him?
When one life enters
another one flees...
I was never meant to make this journey alone
though you did leave me with a piece of you...
I miss you...

Thank you Shahmat, I will take your words of wisdom to heart. Unfortunately I have been avoiding the silence for these past few months, as it seems that is where our memories like to find me. Perhaps I should be more open and welcoming to them, even if they keep me in an ever present state of grief and remorse.

Honestly Deadwolf, I'm not quite sure what I'm into writing or reading at the moment. Just really taking it all in. I'm a fairly open book when it comes to new things. Do you have a recommendation on where to start? As far as writing goes, I just write to express what I feel. I'm obviously no professional, it just feels somewhat good to get my emotions onto paper.

Not a sad attempt at all, a brave first step. Poetry is expression. Put it out there. It’s much better to release than to have it forever walking around the corridors of a tortured mind.
My condolences for your loss.

What a crushing first entry - your pain is tangible.
Writing about trauma, loss etc can be very therapeutic.
To me it is at least, welcome to the deep green.

Thank you Duende, It certainly isn't easy to write about. I assume in that regard it's similar to hydrogen peroxide, when it hurts, that's how you know it's working.

hello dearest Lantern I could feel your pain here...just know you are not alone here...DU is a very welcoming place...just keep writing feelings will surface as they did in this very honest write...as for where to start reading I would recommend just going to latest poems read a little of their intro before committing to a poem then read from there... or random poems...I also like to pay attention to what other people are commenting on...there's a lot of unique writers here and we have a story to tell...don't get overwhelmed just go slow and take you time and welcome ❤️

Hello Crimsin, thank you for welcoming me to DU and for the tips on how to best operate this site effectively. You are correct, everyone here has been very welcoming and friendly so far. Seems like a place where one can just be themselves and unload their trauma.

In the hush of the hospital room, they sat bereft,
With memories of a love now taken, and left.
Their presence, once cherished, now a void to bear,
As they grappled with sorrow, in silent despair.
Their beloved, once their solace, their guiding light,
Now a memory fading, lost in the night.
In their arms, they held remnants of love's embrace,
A bittersweet token of a cherished grace.
In the looking glass, reflections of the past,
A face worn with grief, a heart that won't last.
Sleep eludes them, in dreams they yearn to find,
Their loved one's voice, a whisper in the mind.
Fate, with its cruel hand, tore them apart,
Leaving behind wounds, deep in the heart.
How could they explain this ache, this sorrow profound,
To those who look on, without a sound?
As one life ebbs, another begins its flight,
Leaving behind shadows, in the fading light.
In the depths of their grief, a glimmer they see,
A spark of hope, in the dark, rolling sea.
Though the road ahead may be steep, unknown,
Together they'll journey, not walking alone.
Their love, a beacon in the stormy night,
Guiding them through, with its steadfast light.
They miss their beloved, with every breath,
But their love will endure, even in death.
Forever in their hearts, their memory will dwell,
In the silence of sorrow, and the tolling of the knell.

This actually made me cry, please do not take that as a bad thing, I feel your loss, I lost my daughter of 7 in 2010 and it really does leave an empty black hole, you are so very not alone, I will not say what most say, time heals....instead i will say , you learn to live with as part of who you are, and learn to live for them, <3

Wonderful. Hopefully you make a book of these poems for your little one to read someday. They will appreciate everything you can remember and tell them about her!

I think one of the most rewarding things about poetic spaces such as this is that they allow us to show up exactly as we are and express what we need to say.
I think it’s important to acknowledge that space and treat the person behind the screen with a little grace.
I just wanted to say that you are heard and seen and felt here. Thank you for being so vulnerable.
