Cleaning Out Some Cobwebs
Fervent belief of my kindness
holding steadfast in graciousness
Respectful and honest humility
an impassioned sense of empathy
Benevolence for all those that weep
unabashed compassion for all who seek

Me alone with rose tinted glasses
but only an actress to fool the masses

Utterly blind to my defects
delusional disease, unseen effects
Sickly disposition, made me a liar
endless intoxication, my selfish desire
Fabricated stories, told straight to face
deny always, myself I debase
Spiritual malady created a thief
in my actions, I fostered their grief
Sorrowful pleading, unable to cease
progressive and fatal, stealing their peace
Such disgrace cannot be undone
forgiveness for thyself, sadly none

Thank you. I know my poetry can sometimes be dark... it truly is my way of processing. In recovery, I am looking at myself in a different light. The need to be honest with myself is critical. I am grateful for your comments.

Emotionally this is a powerful poem. Now I truly enjoyed the rhyme, using syllables to not over force a rhyme speaks to your experience. Very nice!

This is an emotional one for me. Its about taking responsibility for my actions. I can no longer pretend that I was only hurting myself in my addiction. Glad you appreciated the rhyme.

Feelings of worthlessness born of self-unforgiveness are rampant within the community of addiction. But there is so much more to you. The world needs your willingness to listen and extend compassion. You're a broad shoulder despite your own problems.

The personal recognition hits hard and hits home. Your openness is courageous and embracing. This write for me, is raw and confessional. While sharing a piece of how you perceive yourself you’ve given me a lifeline in not feeling so alone for many of the same perceptions. So universal in message and subject. Great writing.

Dear H,
While I appreciate you identified with this write, I am also sorry. I did have to call upon some courage to put it out there as the wreckage I left in my path certainly serves my guilt and shame. However, I also believe it shines a light on the malady. No my dear friend, you are not alone.

Always felt that we're taught to think ourselves unworthy. It doesn't happen I'm a vacuum. But then we're the ones who have to live with the damage, to heal from it & relearn
