Stay With Me

I could never detach from an attachment

soaring in the heat of the affairs
my lovers became a part of me

willingly opened
and devoured
they became sustenance

it only changed
when they no longer
offered themselves to me

And I couldn't accept that

What was carnal, became primal

I feared that memories might be lost
so I took drastic measures
to ensure they stay with me

I couldn't keep them alive,
but I was able to salvage
some of those savored bits
deep in my belly

They will always be a part of me.
