The Cork
just a cork small and insignificant
bobbing around on the water
fastened to a fishing line
simple in its usefulness
on a certain bottle of white or red
whichever is opened first
it keeps in the liquid so treasured
to quench a need deeper than thirst
its simple usefulness surpass
the vineyards and swirling glass
untold corks inventor's resourcefulness
to plugs leaks, and bathtubs and sinks.

Useful maybe but as far as wine goes, the majority of manufactures have gone over to screw tops as their preferred method of seal which I hated it at first cos I missed the sound of the pop... mind you, champagne is still corked & that seems perfectly fine. Funny that! :-)

This would be a great topic piece, simple things that have major purposes. Some fishermen have move on to the plastic bobs but we still use cork on all of our equipment. But there has to be lots of other uses not mentioned here, tight
