The Dragon King of Yore

when legends were real
and tales lived in majestic worlds
the dragons of fire of ancient tales,
roamed this realm a wonder to behold

there was a Dragon King
a man but a wondrous fearsome sight
whose swords were as wings
that he weld with majestic might

he rode on his horse
leading his army in glorious conquest
throwing men to their knees by force
and pledge their allegiance

but stop he did on his stride
when he saw a maiden fair
that he wanted for his bride
though she wasn't a noble's daughter

his thunder left the sky
his noble head bowed
his crown of flames dimmed
for the woman of his dream

with every beat of his mighty heart
he let his guard down
his swords his armour his helmet
and embraced the maiden

on this moment of love and joy
on this momentary weakness
a single arrow in a flash destroyed
all he was as the dragon King

for love he was vanquished
a single arrow through his heart
if only it was from cupid
it would be an eternal knot.
