Dog Stories and Other Oddities of Fate
Walking my dog Onyx this morning
An hour later than usual
Hit the pavement at 7am
Usually out the door at 6am plus or minus
First dog we engage with is a BIG poodle
Jet black and wearing a cone
Just got spayed yesterday
Dog's name is Sunday
My first city rescue dog is pictured here
Her name was Sunday, we changed it
Ginger became her name
I named her after Ginger on Gilligan's Island A beauty for a beauty
I tell the owner black dogs rule
We chat and I move on
Next dog is a ultra small mutt
Our dogs engage
Sniffing parts
The dogs name is Gigi
I tell the owner I had a dog named Gigi
Growing up on Long Island
Everyone had a dog named Gigi
We engage and talk and then move on
That one hour difference is critical
At 6am, it's dark, cold and few dogs out
At 7am, the whole world is buzzing
Sun coming up, the day unfolding
You get more Good Mornings at 7am
At 6am everyone is still asleep
Thinking I should buy a lotto ticket
It's a sure loser but you never know
Just like running into my past with dogs
Sunday and Gigi
Sunday became Ginger
Gigi stayed Gigi
My new dog Onyx was named Mabel
A moment in time in New York City ....

Who was it Whitman with the pics of his dogs, we love animals but we don't own any pets. We couldn't imagine loosing a pet, it would probably border loosing a child. But we can see that through expand your world with your pets it has also expanded your world with humans. Interaction dude is key, to tight

I've always had pets.
You give up a lot of freedom but you get back so much. Especially in a city like mine where there is so many chance encounters ...
Thanks ME

I'd like to go out later. This older buck really needs that extra sleep hour I gave up when we got Onyx. Gonna try.
Ginger was an amazing hound. She's definitely training Onyx from beyond.
Both incredible dogs. I'm fortunate.
Gigi was also a beauty. Super affectionate just like Onyx. Ginger was part human I believe. She needed activity, would have loved to do math problems I always said ..

Ginger was aptly named. What a beauty.
Love these city snapshots, out here in the country! I do run into the neighbours and their dogs, though. Pinky and Alfie and Sophie...

Awww. Look at that face!!
I've always had a dog.
Rex, Daisy, and my moms dog who's name is Goliath. He's not big!
Just old and fluffy. He's got a vet appointment next week. Arthritis. Poor guy.

I like those names mucho ...
Everyone should have a dog
They teach you so much and make you laugh everyday.
4 legged wonders ....
Thx A !
Goliath is a great name btw ..
Gabapentin is good for arthritis. We gave it to Ginger for years. It helped her mood with the pain as well..

It's funny how an hour can make so much difference depending on when it is. I agree, 6-7am, big difference, 2-3pm, not so much. I felt I was on that walk with you as your English friend... only, you probably wouldn't see me up that early, as I'm not a 'morning person'. I would have had to stay up all night to stand any chance of joining you. But then, I would need a reward for doing so... a strong coffee & cheeseburger with everything on it, like Lois Lane once demanded in that Superman film, lol. 😉🍔

I'd buy you breakfast.
Bacon and eggs and conversation..
Hard to beat
Onyx will lick your face top
Double win ...
Donuts too yo
Then it will be time for another walk, then lunch...
The cycle goes on and on ..

Thank you most kindly, sir! It's true about the walking. We used to walk our Jack Russell terrier, 'Mitch' twice a day. The trouble is they start to whine if you don't walk 'em, right..? regardless of whether you want to or not! Lol. 😉

Yes
Whining
For mostly, walks ( 3 to 4 walks a day )
Other stuff
But Onyx gives it back in love and humor.
Can't beat that...

Then I've done my job Bat
I've had a bunch of animals in my day and there's nothing like the companionship and protection of a good sized hound.
My current rescue hound has started to employ her big bark. She knows she has a real home now and is protecting it ..
Thx

What are the odds of that, running into people with dogs whose names you once had.
Yes, more folks are out and about a little later in the morning, I can only imagine how chilly NYC is in January,

Today was crazy cold. Walked my dog for 20 minutes this morning. It's usually 30 minutes but way too cold. Then did a Trader Joe's run. Took the city bus down about a mile and thought I do the same coming home but the wait was 20 minutes so I walked the mile. That was a challenge. Took a good long time to get my hands back working again. The wind chill temp was 9
