You know, let me give you a step into my world
My city has a few names, but now we call it the trench
I know you’re wondering why we call it that
But give me a moment to explain that
It’s a meaningful story I’m about to tell

Let me tell a story, about a small city called the Grip
They used to call it that, but now they now they call it the trench
A metaphor to describe the city as a deep, muddy old ditch
It’s extremely hard to get out of, once you trip and fall right in

From the backroads of the Northside, to the front line of the Southside
It’s some of us with that Griffin pride, lion-hearted, ain’t backing down
Mason jars with iced tea, high-rollers with gold teeth
Home of the Bears and Jaguars, this the city that molded me

There’s some that’s down here, who don’t want none to flourish
Dick riders, groupies, and naysayers hate to see you growing
Other camps they envy me, because they know I got gumption
One thing about underdogs, no one never sees us coming

Long way from the glory days, now memories are  just replays
The trench was once united, but division caused some delays
Honoring fallen angels, while reflecting on our escapades
Hot summers, spiked lemonade with bad bitches and Escalades

City filled with talent, that’s why other towns be throwing shade
Once we get the spotlight put on us I hope it never fades
Had promising talent lose their way, because they lost faith
Out here in the streets, taking risks, when they could’ve played it safe

It’s up to us to make a way, can’t afford to go astray
Homies crashing out so they’ll never see the light of day
I know it’s sad to say that my city can get crazy
But I’d never turn my back to it, when the trench itself has made me
