Cult of Personality

 
They want to lead people to the promised land
They wish to build the perfect society free of damnation
But first they must cleanse it and be rid of all that is bad
Filling people with fear that they too may be a damned nation

They speak with charisma, with certainty, with power
But the message brainwashes and turns people into slaves
The masses buy into the idea of one deranged individual
And they follow their messiah blindly even to their own graves

The deliverer stands proud there behind the podium
Book in one hand, a fist in the other toward the crowd
Feeding empty souls devoid something they want and need
Nourishing egos with a sense “freedom” creating strange vows

The followers find a place where they feel they truly belong  
Distancing themselves from reality, from truth, from humanity
They’ll fight to the death defending the reputation of their leader
While the false prophet rakes in the profits from all the insanity
