Melancholic Masonry

Regret
It is a pain that wrenches the heart, and scorches the soul
Squeezing the air from your lungs
And betraying all thoughts that one holds dear

Over time, it lashes you with the bonds of anguish
Mocking you with the silent words of indifference
Beholden to no one else
For you are the architect of your own suffering

As long as a fist is clenched, you will remain a martyr
Detest self loathing
Deny pity
We are architects, it's time to rebuild

Don't let your bones be the foundation
Don't let your blood be the mortar
Nor your dreams the blueprint
As long as regret remains

Author's Note
This poem was a bit difficult for me to write. Often times when something goes wrong we look to ourselves as the problem, and hang on what we believe to be the consequences of our actions. I hope this poem gives you the strength to move forward, and the strength to let go.
