Into the Mist
My coffee’s gone cold
while I stare off into space,
wondering where the time went
as if I wasn’t wasting some of it
right now, watching you vaporize
into mist, right in the middle
of a weekday conversation;
as if I hadn’t just squandered
my precious moments with a coward.
Where does it go indeed,
when you believe in seeing the good
instead of the truth?
I dump out my cup and refill it,
determined not to waste a single drop,
or another thought
on you.
