HYPERattentionDISORDERanxietyACTIVITYdeficitATTACK
shaky hands,
shaky breath
letting people down
important tasks
can’t remember
escape,
let me escape
distract me
please
structures burning down around me
emotions burning up inside me
grief burning deep within me
I am
burning
out
calm exterior
no one knows
SMILE!
haha, oops, sorry I forgot
am I losing my mind?
shoulders tight
can’t relax
breathe? – oh yeah, of course!
frantic overwhelm
listless apathy
no middle ground
The chatter goes on:
you
selfish,
stupid,
lazy ass
.
.
.
“Have you tried using a planner?”

Thanks for reading and for the support. I've lived with this brain for decades, but only recently started to find the right kind of support for my struggles.
I was having quite a moment when I wrote this!
Thanks again,
❤️k

ADHD is my frienemey. Real love/hate. I live and die by the planner. My brain prefers not to engage in reality a good deal of the time, so the planner is necessary. I can relate to the anxious feelings. It had me frozen for a few years in my 30's. I'm swiftly approaching 50 and I find that, with age, I care less and less about the things that would have stopped me right in my tracks years ago.
I like the way you structured this poem. It's visually stimulating, and really portrays the poem subject. Nicely done.

I am past 50 and only diagnosed with ADHD a few months ago. It explains so much, and it pisses me off thinking of how my life, or even just my perception of myself, could have been different.
Oh hell yes to the planner! (Or whatever - for me it's my Google calendar AND a thousand alarms AND lists upon lists...) It's the well-meaning people who think maybe you had never thought of it that crack me up.
Thanks for reading! The structure was pretty much how my thoughts felt at the time - scattered.

Give it time, k. Study and learn about what you can do to deal with this.

Really relatable and you manage to capture that sense of tailspin.

Thanks, Daniel. Writing this was probably the best thing I could do with that particular moment.

Thank you so much for reading and leaving a comment! Sorry I must have missed it earlier... April was busy.
Glad you have the anxiety under control. It isn't much fun.

Loved the format that ties so nicely to the themes here. It’s the self talk that pushes those to the edge.

Thank you. I really wanted to visually convey what I was experiencing at the moment. While still keeping it readable! Glad it worked for you.
