Kosher Safari

my aunt's 80th birthday
was of course a special occasion
an extra special celebration was warranted
not just another luxury cruise
or Ritz Carlton stay in an international capital
no, something more adventurous
something...rugged even!
my cousin and her rich husband
both reform Jews who went orthodox once married
had the perfect solution:
a kosher safari

when Aunt D first says
kosher safari
my brain sparks and sputters

what the...?

before I thought through kosher safari
I kind of pictured this:


giraffes gorging gefilte fish
lions loving latkes
hippos having hummus
elephants eating Entemanns
buffalos buying babka
cheetahs choosing charoset
and meerkats munching matzah

then I put together
what their kosher safari would be like:
air conditioned motor coaches
the best accommodations
complete with a kosher kitchen
-or at least a private kosher chef-
no meat combined with dairy
savannah sunsets on shabbat
funny family fables
about their amazing adventure
how brave they were!

I have no current overseas travel plans
but some of my best adventures await:
Japan
Norway
Finland
India
New Zealand

Africa too
a safari would be cool
I'd come home with great photos
interesting stories
maybe even a new perspective

but definitely no first-hand knowledge
of the kosher version
