The Silver Necklace

My mother's silver necklace
Danced across my skin.
The gift she gave in purity
Was all I wore in sin.

The necklace passed through many hands
Before resting upon my chest.
The women before me wore it too
On the nights they gave their best.

One day I’ll pass this necklace down
To a daughter with shining hair.
May it sparkle on that special night
When she spreads her all to share.

Author's Note
While missing my mother I read her poem, The Yearbook Photo, and thought of my future daughter if I should ever have one. I rewrote her first verse to begin this poem and found one of my own yearbook photos to include. https://deepundergroundpoetry.com/poems/435401-yearbook-photo/
