Diamond In the Rough
I'm a diamond in the rough
I never wanted her to polish my edges
because friction equals wear
I don't know why opposites attract
it leads to arguments and contention
resentments and beguile
she wants to polish my edges
to see me shine
but I am old and worn
not faceted,
not worth what I once was
I was mined by dynamite
thrown into this world
born with inherent value
and potential
a rock or stone prized
not so much for what I am,
but for what I could be
a ring on a finger
a necklace in a drawer
but i am a
tarnished antique
ready to be buried again
I never wanted her to polish my edges
because friction equals wear
I don't know why opposites attract
it leads to arguments and contention
resentments and beguile
she wants to polish my edges
to see me shine
but I am old and worn
not faceted,
not worth what I once was
I was mined by dynamite
thrown into this world
born with inherent value
and potential
a rock or stone prized
not so much for what I am,
but for what I could be
a ring on a finger
a necklace in a drawer
but i am a
tarnished antique
ready to be buried again
