Begin with the End in Mind

Begin with the end in mind
That’s what I read before and Lord knows I tried
But it’s tough to leave old things behind
You can change a habit for a minute then you find yourself doing a backslide

It’s a lesson I’ve learned
Year after year and time after time
I’ve been dumb and then done got burned
Till the wounds left more scars than I care to try to explain in bars or rhymes

Change can be a little scary
When trying new things or going into the unknown
Because doing the old ways will only get hairy
With each boo-boo you’re in deeper doo-doo not showing signs we’ve grown

Move out of the comfort zone
Many do not like it and will fight it at first
But the brain can reign over flesh and bone
Start with small steps and then the momentum will give you the energy burst

Give yourself an intrinsic reward
For the little milestones that you achieve
Embrace progress as you get closer toward
The goals you envision (and write down) for everything you want to believe

Change is hard but very necessary
It’s the process of leaving old things behind
And though growth and development can vary
Change can be a little easier if you visualize then begin with the end in mind
